Leland frowned, clearly feeling a bit uneasy about Johan’s overly enthusiastic attitude.

I opened my eyes a bit, curious about Leland’s response.

Thank you, Johan. You’re the only one who has always cared for both Kaylie and me. Speaking of which, it reminds me of when I first joined the Perez family. It was really hard for Kaylie and me.”

Johan seemed to realize something and said, “I apologize, Mr. Pearson, for bringing up those painful memories.”

Leland responded, “It’s okay. Please rest assured. I will always protect Kay.”

The car became quiet. I moved to face away from Leland.

The view outside was pleasant, but even Leland’s well-crafted words couldn’t alter his cheating and betrayal.

He began working, either giving instructions on his phone or using his laptop. His opening line was always the same.

My wife is asleep, please speak softly…”

I quietly put up with Leland’s supposed care. After two hours, I stretched my arms.

He quickly offered me juice and snacks.

“I brought some homemade food for you. Stomach pain can be severe, and if you neglect your stomach issues, it could get much worse in the future.”

I nodded, looking into his bright eyes.”Thank you.”

Leland was surprised.”I recall the last time you thanked me was on our wedding day three years ago.”

I gave a wry smile. It seemed I had lost the knack for being pampered.

I simply watched him in silence, then turned my head to gaze out the window.
