Hearing their conversation and Denise’s wailing, I coughed violently.

Hearing my coughing, Denise immediately rushed towards me. In the thick smoke, she couldn’t see my legs and tripped over me, but she didn’t get angry; instead, she started laughing.

“Kay, I finally found you. Let’s get out. I’ll take you out of here first!”

Tears flowed down my face. I struggled to get up and noticed that the blood had soaked my white suit.

Pain spread throughout my body, and my lower abdomen throbbed with intense pain.

The warm blood kept flowing from between my legs. I had a sense that a little baby was leaving me.

I instantly panicked, remembering that I hadn’t had my period for over forty days. My mind went blank. Could I be having a miscarriage?

A few days before Caitlyn sent those provocative texts, I had been sleeping with Leland. Could it be that I got pregnant with his child then?

“No! It can’t be. I’ve wanted a child so badly, so fate wouldn’t be so cruel to take my baby away! Leland, it’s all your fault! You and Caitlyn made me lose my baby. Leland, I hate you!”

Denise was terrified. She pulled me towards the emergency exit, crying as she went, “Kay, hold on! We can’t die here. We can’t let those who hurt you get away with it. If you die, Caitlyn will surely take your place, steal your husband, your house, your property, and everything your parents left you! Can you bear to see everything taken away by her? Please, stay with me!”
