“So, what do you want?” Hugo asked directly.

Tara licked her lips, meeting his gaze. “First, let me make my position clear. I’m not the bad guy, at least not to her.” She

gestured toward Scarlett inside the room.

Adler spoke.

Hugo stared at her, not saying a word.

Though he didn’t voice it, Hugo trusted her. After all, last time, she was the one watching the door for Scarlett.

Seeing his silence, Tara continued, “I’ll get straight to the point. I’ve spread the word about her being hospitalized here. Whoever wants to harm her will show up in the next couple of days. We… I was planning to catch them in the act, but with

you here… you get what I mean, right?”

“Who are you?” Hugo asked, looking at her.

Hugo’s lips curled up on one side. “I didn’t have anyone else watching this place. I’m here personally, waiting for this

person. It seems we have the same goal. Maybe we can catch this person together.”

Tara studied Hugo, trying to determine if he was being truthful.

Just then, First’s voice came through her earpiece. He was sitting in the car, watching them on the surveillance feed,

providing her with real–time advice. “I think you should agree.”

“No way!” Tara suddenly tilted her head and said.

Hugo noticed her earpiece and realized someone was directing her from behind the scenes. His gaze grew more intense.

Realizing her mistake, Tara quickly adjusted her attitude and looked at Hugo. “What I meant was, there’s no need. Since you have the same plan, you can handle it. The famous Mr. Hodges catching someone should be a piece of cake. You

don’t need to team up with me.” She finished with a slight smile, thinking she was being clever.

Hugo’s lips curled slightly. “You seem to know a lot about me.”
