from each other, one facing east and the other west.

Blinking his innocent eyes, Alex looked at Scarlett, silently pleading for help. Scarlett, save

“Ouch, ouch!” Alex tiptoed closer to her, trying to ease the pain.

this from me. Do you have any conscience left?”

“I didn’t lie to you! How did I lie?”

“Hugo is your dad, and you dare say you didn’t deceive me?”

“I… I never said he wasn’t!”

“You-” Tara glared at him, her anger growing. “Alex, don’t try to talk your way out of this. When I said you looked alike, how did you respond?”

Tara wasn’t really using much force; she was just trying to scare him a bit, to knock down his

childish pride.

But she couldn’t resist his harmless face and earnest pleading, so eventually, she let go.

“You better have a good explanation, or else-”

“Or else what?” Alex asked, looking at her.

Tara thought for a moment, “Or else, I’ll stop being friends with you!”

Alex rubbed his ear where she’d tugged it and looked at her, “You’ve already helped me with

what I needed, and now you’re gonna end our friendship? Wouldn’t that be a loss for you?

You’re not the type to make a bad deal, Tara!”
