He started the car. “Do you think Grandpa will ever let go of his grudge against me?”

“His grudge and the outcome are two separate things,” Scarlett explained.

Hugo listened and then glanced sideways at her. “So, even if Grandpa isn’t thrilled with me, it won’t stop us from having a

good outcome?”

Seeing Hugo’s curious gaze, Scarlett paused for a moment. “Literally speaking, that’s what I meant!”

Hugo gave a tender smile. “Scarlett, I get it!”

“What do you get?” Scarlett asked.

Hugo’s smile turned teasing. “I understand what you mean, of course!”

Scarlett just paused for a moment at his grin and chose not to explain further.

Whether he truly understood or not, it didn’t matter. Some things she just didn’t want to clarify anymore.

Scarlett put her phone away and asked, “What did you need?”

“I have to head back to the office to handle some things. It’ll take about an hour. Can we go back to the old house

together afterward?” Hugo asked.

Turning to Scarlett, he said, “Wait for me in the office. I’ll be back soon. If you need anything, just use the intercom to have

them bring it to you.”
