First had just reached his room’s door when he suddenly remembered something and glanced toward the room next door.
After a moment of thought, he smiled and walked over. Standing outside Second’s door, he knocked gently. “Are you
asleep?”

The door swung open, revealing Second standing there with a cold expression.
First smiled at him, “Why do you look like you’re holding a grudge against me?”
“What do you think?” Second replied in a frosty tone.
First kept smiling, “I thought you’d thank me for coming over.”
Second looked at him, his smile not reaching his eyes. “Thank you.”
Though he knew it was sarcasm, First still chuckled, “You’re welcome.”
Second rolled his eyes and turned back inside, flopping onto his bed and absentmindedly sketching in his notebook.
First didn’t intend to go in. He leaned against the doorframe, his small frame relaxed. “Earlier, I noticed you seemed pretty
natural with Dad.”
Second froze, surprised that First had seen that.
A complicated feeling welled up inside him, and he turned his back, staying silent.
Seeing his silence, First continued, “Honestly, when Dad saved you, weren’t you a little moved?”
At that moment, Second, lying on the bed, suddenly turned his head to look at him and asked, “These things were part of
your plan from the start, weren’t they?”
First paused for a moment, then smiled and said, “How could such random events be part of my plan? Besides, I wouldn’t
let you face such danger, and I certainly wouldn’t want Dad to get hurt!”
“That’s not what I’m talking about!” Second said, staring at him intently, “You know what I mean.”
First maintained his elegant smile, unsure of what to say.
“So it is,” Second said, narrowing his eyes.
First didn’t deny it any longer. “When things got to that point, I just thought I’d give Dad a little help. It’s obvious he wants to talk to you every time, but you never give him a chance. You’re always hiding or avoiding him. I figured, if I put Dad in a
spot, at least I’d have something to say when he comes asking, right?”
As soon as he finished speaking, Second threw a pillow at him. “So you set me up?”
First caught it effortlessly and smiled at him. “How is that a setup? It’s called giving you a push. Don’t you want to have a
normal father–son relationship with Dad?”
“Then why don’t you fix yours?” Second retorted.

“Well, someone has to test the waters first. Besides, I’ve spent a lot of time alone with Dad and we’ve had plenty of deep
conversations. Our interactions aren’t as awkward as yours!” First replied.
Second stared at him for a long time, finally uttering two words, “Betraying friends, shameless!”
First kept smiling, “Second, you’re the master of taking advantage and then playing innocent.”
Just then, Second turned sharply, catching his gaze. Second spread his hands, “Okay, chill, I’m leaving!”
“Close the door!” First said slowly, word by word.
“Sure!” With that, First pulled the door shut, and just before it closed completely, he chuckled, “Enjoy reminiscing about
fatherly love tonight. Goodnight.”
With that, as Second was about to explode in anger, First quickly shut the door and made his escape.
Second lay on the bed, staring at the closed door. His anger slowly shifted to a complex mix of emotions, and eventually,
he couldn’t help but smile.
Realizing he was smiling, Second tried to suppress it, pretending to cough a couple of times, and returned to a composed
expression.
He glanced down at the gun illustrations in the album, closed it, put it away, and turned off the light to sleep.
In his dreams, his lips were curled into a smile…
Meanwhile, on the other side.
Hugo Hodges received a call and rushed over.
However, as soon as he arrived, a group of people quickly formed a circle, surrounding Hugo.
Though nothing was said, the intent was crystal clear.
Hugo’s cool, pale face was tense, his sharp black eyes simmering with a cold anger. His gaze landed on the person in

front of him, and he spoke quietly, “Hurley, what is the meaning of this?”
Hurley, Ray’s right–hand man, had come specifically to handle the issue with the goods and was in charge of this
situation.
Standing about six feet away from Hugo, Hurley lowered his gaze slightly. “Mr. Hodges, don’t overthink it. It’s just a habit
we’ve picked up from being out here for so long.”
With that, he signaled for the others to back off.
“Why don’t we just grab him and ask? The goods have vanished, and we can’t explain this to the boss when we get back!”
someone shouted from the group.
“Shut up!” Hurley barked, casting a stern look at them. “Mr. Hodges wouldn’t stoop to such things. Keep talking nonsense,
and you’ll be dealt with according to the rules.”
Hugo heard this and a cold, sharp smile played on his lips as he casually glanced at the person in front of him, “Hurley…*
“Are you trying to play good cop, bad cop with me? What, am I the suspect now?” Hugo Hodges asked with a hint of
sarcasm.
Assistant Hurley pressed his lips together, then replied, “Not at all. However, this situation is quite peculiar, so we had no
choice but to ask for your help, Mr. Hodges.”
Hugo licked his lips, a sharp smile flickering in his eyes. “Ask? Assistant Hurley, your way of asking for help is rather
unique!”
“It’s all a misunderstanding. We hope you can be understanding, Mr. Hodges,” Hurley said.
“Understanding?” Hugo let out a cold laugh. “And what if I’m not?”
Assistant Hurley looked troubled. “Mr. Hodges, you left, and then the goods disappeared. It’s hard for us to explain this when we return. You know very well that if we don’t complete our task, we face punishment. This is your territory; surely you have a way to find the people who took the goods. That way, we can report back successfully.”
Hugo chuckled, “Your punishment is none of my concern. You should be grateful I even helped you get this far. What, do you think I have nothing better to do?”

At that moment, Hugo Hodges lowered his gaze, casually and elegantly undoing the cuffs of his jacket. His voice was
deep and ambiguous, “If you had approached me nicely, perhaps I would have agreed. But now, do you think I will?”
He finished speaking and raised his eyes to meet Hurley’s. His dark pupils were like an unseen abyss, sending chills down
one’s spine.
Assistant Hurley felt a slight tremor in his heart.
Though Hugo was merely a businessman, his presence was somehow intimidating.
It was as if he was the one who truly ruled everything.
As Hurley pondered his next move, his phone rang.
Seeing it was Ray King, he quickly stepped aside to answer the call.
