Chapter 111
ALINA’S POV

“It’s simple, actually. We tell Mr. Blackwood about this, and let him handle it his way” She shrugged, like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
I blinked… then blinked again.
She had to be joking, right?
I stared at her for a second longer, waiting, fully expecting her to break into a grin and say it was a joke, then hit us with the actual plan. But she didn’t. Her expression remained calm, serious.
“Wait… you’re serious?” I asked, my voice barely concealing my disbelief.
“Of course I am. This is a serious issue, Alina. I’m not going to joke around about something like this.”
I stood up straighter, a scoff catching in my throat. “Are you out of your fucking mind?!” I burst, wide-eyed.
“Now who has the mouth of a sailor?” Cobi muttered under his breath, reclining slightly on the couch with a smirk tugging at his lips.
I shot him a sharp glare, silently warning him that now was definitely not the time for jokes.
He raised both hands slightly in mock surrender. “Just saying,” he muttered. “But I agree with Talia.”
“You both are definitely insane,” I said, shaking my head in disbelief. “There is no way I’m getting Lucian involved in this mess.”
“Why though?” Talia asked, genuine confusion furrowing her brow.
“You know why, Talia. He already has a lot on his plate. I can’t add this to it.” My voice softened, laced with guilt of that conversationi heard at my parents weeks ago.
Lucian and I… we weren’t exactly in a good place. But I knew he was carrying a heavy burden. I didn’t know all the details. but I knew he’d been following a lead, chasing a man, someone dangerous. He didn’t know I knew. I’d overheard a tense conversation one night when he thought I was asleep.
“This is your life we’re talking about, Ally,” Talia said firmly, her gaze steady and filled with concern. “And you know it wouldn’t take him anything to make this go away.”
That’s true but I didn’t want to.
“Let’s look for another way.” I said, more stubbornly than I intended.
Call it pride. Call it pettiness. But deep down…. I just wasn’t ready to run to Lucian. I was still mad at him. Still hurt. And maybe, just maybe, I wanted to prove that I could handle this on my own.
“Fine then.” Talia raised both hands in mock surrender. “Do you have a better idea?”
“Well… no,” I admitted after a pause, “but I’ll figure something out.”
I looked at Cobi. “For now, let’s focus on your recovery first. I’ll make sure I’m always with Jordan, that should keep Jackson at bay in the meantime.”

He frowned slightly. “What would you be doing?”
“I’ll go back to my normal routine,” I said with a shrug. “I’m not going to let that monster make me live in fear for God knows how long.”
“That’s my girl.” Talia praised, her eyes glinting with pride.
“Please be careful.” Cobi’s tone shifted, becoming heavier. “I’ve already lost one sister because of that bastard. I don’t want to lose another one.” His voice trembled slightly, and the emotion behind his words hit me like a punch to the chest.
It felt good having someone watch over you in a brotherly way. I have always wanted a brother.
“You won’t,” I whispered, moving over to him and taking his hand gently in mine. “I promise.” I gave it a reassuring squeeze, offering him a small smile.
“Well, I’ll keep on trying to gather information and evidence against him,” Talia said to Cobi, shifting gears. “In case you want to deal with him the ‘legal way”” She said using her fingers to insert air quotes on the Legal way part.
“Legal way?” Cobi scoffed, raising a brow. “You’re joking, right? We have a broken system? one where the rich get away with everything, while people like me almost never get justice.”
‘That’s not true.” I said, frowning.
But… was it? I paused. I had lived with a silver spoon all my life. I didn’t really know how the world worked for people like Cobi.
Actually, it is.” Talia interjected gently.
Right. I sometimes forgot that she was practically family with the streets and the black market, even though Talia came from noney. Her parents were freaking loaded.
‘That’s why I’d rather handle things the other way.”She added with a shrug.
Talia, your mom is a High Court judge.” I said flatly, arching a brow.
‘And?” She deadpanned without missing a beat.
“Wait, your mother is a judge?” Cobi asked, surprised as he gave her a slow once-over, like he couldn’t quite reconcile her personality with that fact.
“Stop giving me that look.” Talia rolled her eyes, clearly used to this kind of reaction.
She was such a rebel you’d never guess she came from a family of the law.
“So you’re the black sheep of the family, I take it?” Cobi teased, amused, one brow raised.
“An only child. And I like to refer to myself as a wildcard.” She said with a wink, her lips quirking.
“How wild can you get?” He asked, his voice dropping an octave, tone almost teasing.
“Nope! Absolutely not. You two?” I exclaimed, stunned. “How did we go from Jackson to you two shamelessly flirting in front
of me?”
I turned to Cobi with a look of mock horror. “And you! Don’t forget that you’re injured!”
“How can I forget when you point it out every few seconds?” He said dryly. “As if the unbearable pain in my side isn’t

reminder enough.” He added with a sigh.
Before I could fire back, a knock echoed at the door.
“That must be Jordan,” I said, turning toward the sound. I paused midway and turned back, wiggling my finger playfully at them. “No flirting, you two. I mean it.”
I caught a glimpse of Talia rolling her eyes just as I turned away.
When I opened the door, it was indeed Jordan standing there, bags in hand.
“Give me a few minutes and we’ll be right out.” I said, taking the bags from him before heading back inside.
“Here.” I placed the bags down in front of Cobi. “Call the front desk if you need anything. The building offers medical services too, so you can have your bandage changed professionally if you want.”
“Will do. Thanks so much for everything, Alina.” he said sincerely, his voice quieter than usual.
“That’s what family does, right?” I replied with a small shrug, but I knew those words carried weight.
“Yeah… family.” He repeated softly. His tone was hushed, and I could see how much those words meant to him.
“Take care of yourself, Jacobi. I’ll text you as soon as I get something solid.” Talia told him.
“Be careful too, Wildcard.” Cobi said, his voice a mix of seriousness and flirtation.
