Rebirth Of The Heiress And The Tycoon's Lover (Alina) novel Chapter 112

Chapter 112

AUTHOR’S POV

“Mr. Blackwood.” Cobi greeted, managing to keep his voice strong and even despite the tension that prickled at the back of

his neck.

Lucian nodded once, his expression unreadable. “May I come in?”

Lucian stepped in with the commanding presence of someone used to owning every room he walked into, not even waiting to be permitted by Cobi. Ace trailed behind him, as usual, his sharp eyes sweeping over Cobi, a stern look on his face.

Cobi quietly closed the door, his heart pounding. He couldn’t deny that he was honored to be in the presence of a man as formidable as Lucian Blackwood but this wasn’t a social call, he knew that much. His gut curled with unease.

“I’ll call you back.” He said into the phone, still pressed to his ear.

“You okay, boss?” Came the concerned voice from the other end.

“Let’s hope so.” Cobi muttered under his breath, before ending the call and pocketing the phone.

He moved cautiously into the living room, where Lucian had already made himself comfortable on a single-seater, legs crossed elegantly, like he belonged there… like he owned the place.

Which, technically, he did.

“Take a seat, Jacobi Anthonio.” Lucian said, his tone leaving no room for negotiation.

Cobi wasn’t surprised Lucian knew his full name. A man like him could find out anything about anyone with the snap of his fingers. He settled onto the couch opposite, trying not to let his discomfort show, though the weight of Lucian’s presence was suffocating.

“I want to understand,” Lucian began, voice calm but tight, “why I got a call from my building manager informing me that my fiancée, who didn’t even acknowledge this gift,” he gestured casually to the luxurious apartment around them, “or show the slightest interest in its location, suddenly appeared here. And after a little digging, I discover she’s hiding a man on my property.”

Cobi swallowed hard. There was no mistaking the underlying threat in Lucian’s words.

It wasn’t shocking that Lucian owned the entire complex. Everything about him screamed wealth, not the kind built from hustle, but old, generational money. He wore it like armor.

“This isn’t what it looks like, Mr. Blackwood.” Cobi said quickly, sitting forward slightly in his seat.

“Oh?” Lucian arched a brow, the corner of his mouth lifting slightly.

“Yes, Mr. Blackwood. I’m not Ally’s secret lover.” Cobi clarified, a slight shiver of disgust passing through him.

Lucian noticed.

Alina was undeniably stunning, like a porcelain doll, but to Cobi, she felt like a sister. She reminded him too much of Rosa, his late sibling.

Only difference was, Alina had strength. She could stand up for herself. Rosa had been softer, more naive. But what Cobi didn’t know was that before her rebirth, Alina had been exactly like Rosa, fragile and unsure. The resemblance between the two women ran deeper tthan just appearance. They could pass off as twins.

“Forgive me if I find that hard to believe.” Lucian said coldly. “She’s been sneaking around for weeks. Large amounts of money have been moving from one of my accounts, but not for her usual purchases. These are male essentials. And now I find out she’s hiding a man in a property that belongs to me. Do you see how that looks?”

Lucian’s tone was calm, too calm, and that made it all the more dangerous.

He’d initially resolved to let Alina do her own thing, as long as she stayed safe. But when the building’s medical staff tried and failed to contact her about Cobi’s condition, Lucian had gotten involved. What felt mad and hurt even that she was hiding a man at a building he had gifted her.

He’d already been frustrated about Adrian but he had him under control, with Adrian been busy with the project and all, there was really no time to bother Alina.

No there was this?

“Alina is only trying to help me.” Cobi said, his voice steady but cautious.

“Why?” Lucian pressed. “I checked, until recently, you two had never crossed paths. Not until she visited downtown.”

No, Lucian didn’t need to ask Jordan. Every Blackwood vehicle was equipped with GPS tracking. It took only a quick check of the system to find out where she’d gone. Jordan had remained loyal to Alina, never once betraying her, but Lucian didn’t need him to. Technology never lied.

“Because she sees me as a brother.” Cobi replied.

“Alina is adopted,” Lucian pointed out, growing impatient. “And even then, she has only one sister. There’s no blood relation between you two. So how did you meet?”

When Lucian had first discovered Cobi’s presence here, his instinct had been to make the man disappear. But Ace had cautioned him. For some reason, Alina cared about Cobi, and if Lucian harmed him, it would be over. Their relationship was already strained after the Adrian situation. This might just be the final blow that breaks the camel’s back.

Cobi hesitated. He remembered Alina’s plea not to involve Lucian, and he respected her decision. But now, face-to-face with the one man who could destroy him with a snap of his fingers, he had to tread carefully.

“We met when she brought food for some homeless kids downtown,” Cobi began. “I noticed her flashy car and knew someone like her didn’t belong there. I approached her, told her to leave before a gang noticed. It was pure coincidence… and she knew who I was. She told me she’d been friends with my late sister Rosa. They attended the same college. That’s how we got talking. I got into some trouble and ended up injured. She brought me here to recover. I’ll leave as soon as I’m well.”

He delivered the explanation without revealing Alina’s real reasons, keeping her secret safe.

But Lucian could tell something wasn’t right. He knew everything about Alina, every friend, every phase of her life. And there had never been a Rosa in her social circle. Her only friend from college was the red-haired Talia.

So, Alina had lied to Cobi about how she knew him. The question was, why? What was she up too?

Cobi seemed to have believe Alina though.

“Your sister’s the one who jumped off that college building, isn’t she?” Lucian asked, tone level.

The story had once made national headlines. A prestigious school marred by its first on-campus death.

“She didn’t jump,” Cobi said sharply. “She was murdered.”

“And is that what Alina is helping you with? Catching the killer?” Lucian pressed. “Do you have any actual proof, or is this

just baseless speculation?”

He was fishing now, using his emotion as leverage. If Alina wouldn’t talk to him, maybe Cobi would.

“Of course we do. Ally linked me with Talia, who found proof that Rosa didn’t jump on her own,” Cobi replied, voice still laced with defensiveness. “Now we’re just waiting for more evidence to connect that bastard Jackson to her death.”

Lucian masked his reaction, but inwardly, he smirked. He was finally getting somewhere.

“Jackson?” He asked.

“Yes. The fucker who killed my sister… and shot me when he realized I was onto him,” Cobi growled, clutching his side in pain.

Though he was recovering, the wound wasn’t completely healed it still stung.

Grimacing, he grabbed his phone and showed Lucian a picture of Jackson. “Now he’s stalking Alina. It’s like some twisted game to him.”

Lucian stilled. “He what now?”

This changed everything. He had only wanted to know what Alina was up to,not realizing just how deeply she was involved… or how much danger she was in.

“I, uh…” Cobi realized too late what he’d let slip.

He didn’t know how to get out of the trap he just set for himself.

“Start talking.” Lucian ordered, voice steely and firm.

Cobi exhaled, knowing resistance was futile. He recounted everything.

“This is my sister, Rosaline.” He showed Lucian a picture.

Lucian’s eyes narrowed. He couldn’t help but admit that Rosa did in fact bear a striking similarity to Alina, porcelain skin, wide eyes, delicate features. They could pass off as sisters.

“There’s a pattern. I don’t know if Rosaline was his first victim, but judging by Jackson’s recent obsession with Alina, he targets women who look like them.”Cobi said quietly.

“Ace. “Lucian turned to Ace.

“Yes boss,”

“Why wasn’t I told that Alina was being stalked?”

His voice was eerily calm. Too calm, Ace knew it was the calm before the storm.

“Boss, Jordan mentioned once sometime ago that the boss lady had mention that she felt like someone was watching her, but when they did a sweep of the area, nothing was found. No report was brought to me after that concerning the incident” Ace explained quickly.

Cobi’s phone rang, it was Talia.

Lucian noticed her name on the phone screen that was still with him and handed it to him. “Take it,” he said. “Don’t give anything away.”
