Lucian stared at his phone for what felt like the tenth time in the last two minutes, jaw tight, brows furrowed in frustration. Still nothing. No new messages. No missed calls. Nothing from Alina.
He swiped down again, refreshing, pointlessly.
Ace glanced at him from across the room, trying not to smirk at how worried his boss looked, as he shuffled some files. “Still no word from Madame boss?”
Lucian didn’t respond. Instead, he reached for his phone again, going through the inbox, then the call log. A strange prickling sensation crawled up the back of his neck, something wasn’t right.
He frowned. “You haven’t received any message from Alina on your end, have you?”
Ace shook his head. “No boss. My phone’s been dry all day.”
Lucian’s eyes narrowed slightly, a flicker of unease behind them. “Check again.”
Ace pulled out his phone, brows raised, but complied. “Still nothing boss.”
Lucian didn’t answer. He just let out a short breath, his fingers clenching the phone before setting it down on the desk. “Forget it.”
What they didn’t know was that somehow, Jessica had entered Lucian’s office while neither he nor Ace was around, and both of their phones had been left on the table.
She had taken the opportunity to delete the call logs and text messages Alina had sent, messages informing Lucian that she had dropped off the lunch with Jessica since he was busy.
Ace hesitated. “Boss, if you’re this worried, maybe just call her. Find out if she’s alright.”
Lucian’s eyes snapped up, sharp and cold. “I’m not worried.”
Ace immediately raised his hands in surrender. “Right. My bad. I am sorry boss, didn’t mean to… insinuate.”
There was a long pause, tension settling in the air. Lucian stared at the screen of his laptop, unmoving.
Then, with a sigh barely louder than a breath, he muttered, “Go check with the front desk. See if she came by,”
Ace suppressed a grin, lips twitching as he stood. It was obvious his boss had been looking forward to the lunch Alina made, even if he was doing his best to pretend he didn’t care.
“On it.”
The moment he stepped into the lobby, he spotted Emma behind the reception desk. Her face lit up with her usual practiced smile she normally used in attending to people when she saw him, but there was something

tight about her smile, something hesitant.

“Hey, Emma,” Ace said smoothly. “Did Miss Alina Dawn dropped by yet? I told you she was going to earlier.”
Emma’s expression faltered. She hesitated. Her hands fidgeted under the desk.
Ace tilted his head. “You okay?”
She forced a watery smile and nodded quickly. “Yes, I’m fine.”
He didn’t believe her, but he didn’t press. Maybe it was personal. “So… Miss Dawn?”
She wanted to tell him the truth, but when she remembered that speaking up could cost her the only source of livelihood she had, she followed Jessica’s instructions instead, though the guilt gnawed at her.
Emma swallowed hard. “She didn’t come by at least not yet.”
“Are you sure you are okay?” Ace asked again.
“I am fine, thanks for asking.” Emma shot him a grateful smile.
Ace stared at her for a moment, brow furrowed, but finally nodded. He shrugged off her strange behavior, assuming she was probably dealing with family or relationship issues.
“Alright then. But should in case she comes, send her straight up.” He instructed.
“Will do.” Emma nodded.
He returned to Lucian’s office, rubbing the back of his neck. “Boss, front desk said she didn’t show…..yet.”
Lucian’s expression darkened instantly, his jaw locking as he looked away.
“Maybe something came up,” Ace offered quickly, sensing the shift in mood. “She could’ve gotten busy or-”
“Doesn’t matter,” Lucian cut him off, eyes fixed on his laptop screen now. “I don’t care if she comes or not.”
Ace didn’t argue, but the look on his boss’s face said otherwise.
Lucian’s fingers hovered above the keyboard, motionless, as the silence stretched on, his pride refusing to admit what his heart already knew.
He missed her and was looking forward to seeing her.

As soon as Alina stepped out of Blackwood Tower, the fresh air hit her face, but it did nothing to cool the heat of disappointment bubbling in her chest. Her fingers curled tightly around the strap of her handbag, knuckles slightly white.
She was not only disappointed but angry at the way Jessica had spoken to her. She quickly sent Lucian a text telling him that she had dropped the Lunch with his secretary seeing as he was busy, but there was no

That only worsen her mood.

Jordan raised a brow as he spotted her approaching. “Everything alright boss?” He asked, his voice laced with concern as he took in the tension on her face.
“I’m fine,” she said a little too quickly, brushing past him. “Let’s just go.”
“But… you didn’t stay long. Didn’t get to see Mr. Blackwood?” Jordan pressed gently, falling in step beside her.
Alina’s jaw tightened. “Just drive, Jordan.” She said quietly, sliding into the back seat.
Jordan exchanged a brief glance with Lee. The quiet man didn’t speak, but his eyes flicked toward the rearview mirror, watching Alina silently with concern etched on his face.
They were halfway down the road when Alina pulled out her phone and dialed. “Talia? Are you home?”
“No, babe. I’m out at the moment. But I’m free to talk, what’s up?” Talia’s voice crackled through the speaker with its usual warmth.
Alina hesitated, then leaned forward. “Jordan, can you pull over at the next park?”
Jordan nodded without question and soon brought the car to a gentle stop near a quiet, shaded park area.
Alina stepped out, needing space, needing privacy. The moment the car door shut behind her, she lifted the phone back to her ear. “I just came from Lucian’s office.” She started.
“Oh?” Talia’s voice was curious. “How’d it go?”
