It was early morning when Ace crept into Lucian’s suite, gently easing the door open. Lucian sat on the edge of his bed, shoulders slumped, red–rimmed eyes staring into nothingness.
“It’s safe to fly now, sir.” Ace said softly, holding the folded flight plan.
Lucian looked up, exhaustion etched into every line of his face. “Any word on Alina?” he asked, voice hollow.
“No, sir. Nothing, but we can head out now.”
Lucian rose, straightening the crisp black shirt Ace offered. “Good,” he murmured, though his eyes betrayed how far from “good” he felt.
Ace grabbed his bag which was already parked and they both walked out of the suite.
As they stepped into the hallway, Jessica Mendez appeared outside the suite door. Lucian paused. “Stay here and finalize the paperwork for the Phoenix deal,” he instructed, voice flat. Without waiting for her reply, he strode past her, Ace close behind.
Jessica watched them go, a triumphant smile playing on her lips. She noticed the dark circles under Lucian’s eyes and knew…. Alina had left him, again.
Hopefully this time, it will be forever.
Once airborne, Ace finally received the recovered lobby footage on his tablet. He hurried to Lucian’s side. “Boss,” he whispered urgently, “we’ve got it.”
“Got what? Alina’s location?” Lucian asked, perking up immediately.
“Ehm no boss, but the lobby footage has been sent.” Ace told, him hoping that would suffice God now.
Lucian sat up, fatigue momentarily forgotten. “What the fuck are you waiting for then? Play it.” He ordered.
Ace tapped the screen. Together they watched Alina arrive in the lobby, greeted with a warm smile by receptionist Emma who pointed towards the elevator after a brief exchange, then she began to stroll toward the elevator, lunch pack in hand.
“I thought the receptionist said Alina didn’t come by.” Lucian growled, fists clenching at the lie they had been told.
Ace said nothing, watching as Jessica stepped in front of Alina with a smug expression, blocking her path before she could get to the elevator.
“Jessica?” Lucian’s voice cracked with disbelief. “She met her, why didn’t you tell me?”

Lucian didn’t think much of it at first until he noticed their conversation growing heated. On screen, Jessica’s smug expression remained fixed on Alina as Alina fished her phone from her purse and pressed it to her ear.
“I think she’s trying to call you, Boss,” Ace observed.
They watched as Alina pulled the phone away, tapped the screen, and then pressed it back to her ear again.
Jessica’s smirk widened.
After a few minutes of tapping on her screen, they saw Alina exchanging a few more words with Jessica, then pausing before handing over the lunch pack to Jessica whose smile grew darker. Without another word, she spun on her heel, her face thunderous as she stormed away.
“What the fuck did she say to her?” Lucian seethed in frustration.”From now on, upgrade every CCTV to include audio.”
“Yes boss.” Ace nodded, swallowing.
“Why the fuck didn’t Jessica bring my lunch to me?” Lucian growled.
He will get his answers almost immediately as he watches Jessica step up to Emma and hand over the lunch pack.
Jessica said something to Emma making the receptionist’s expression to change to one of shock.
Emma said something back but Jessica would lean in and whisper something to Emma.
Emma’s face went pale at whatever Jessica whispered, her lips parting in surprise before a hesitant shake of her head.
Jessica, unruffled, gave Emma a curt nod and a cool, triumphant smile, then turned away, leaving Emma clutching the package with fear etched across her features.
“See that look on her face? She definitely threatened her.” Lucian’s tone held conviction as he pointed at the
screen.
Emma looked terrified, glancing around the lobby.
Ace added quietly, “When I first asked Emma if Alina came by, she looked like she wanted to tell me something, but she didn’t. I had just thought she was having personal issues”
Lucian slammed the armrest, his frustration spilling into the cabin’s hush. “Get Jessica on the phone, now!” He barked at Ace, who fumbled for his own device.
Ace tapped at the screen. “Boss, her number won’t connect.”
“Fucking try again.” Lucian’s voice was taut, every syllable edged with anger.
Ace tried again and again but the result was unchanged.
