Alina cut him short, her voice sharp. “There is nothing going on between us other than the fact that you cheated and I broke up with you, simple as that. Plus I don’t think you cheated, Lucian, I know for a fact you

cheated.”

Lucian’s brows drew together, a frustrated breath leaving him. “I didn’t cheat on you with that woman. She approached me, and I got rid of her, maybe not fast enough, seeing as someone managed to take pictures. But if you don’t believe me, I can pull the CCTV footage from the bar.”

Alina stared at him, her gaze locked on his face, searching for any flicker of deception. But his sincerity was almost blinding.

Talia had been right. Talia had told her there had to be an explanation for those pictures, and there was. But that didn’t explain Jessica.

Her voice was low but cutting. “Fine. Maybe you didn’t cheat on me with the woman at the bar. But that doesn’t mean you didn’t cheat on me with Jessica.”

Lucian’s confusion was immediate, his head tilting slightly. “What?”

“It makes sense now,” Alina went on, her tone tightening. “Why Jessica was so bold when I brought you lunch, she can’t be that confident unless she’s sleeping with you and has your backing.”

His jaw tightened. “Stop saying that. I’m not fucking Jessica.”

Alina’s eyes flashed, her voice trembling but fierce. “Damn you sound so believable right now and I would have believed you, had I not seen what I saw.”

His breath caught. “Doll-”

“Don’t!” she snapped, her voice breaking as she yelled. “Don’t try to lie to me. After I left your office that day, I went back to work, and that’s when Louis came. You don’t even deserve this explanation I am about to give, and I wouldn’t mind you thinking I cheated, because at least then you’d be hurt the same way I am. But you need to know, I’m not like you.”

Her hands clenched at her sides as she continued, each word shaking. “I got those pictures of you at the bar, and my whole mood changed. And the Louis you’re accusing me of having an affair with? He’s the same person who told me not to jump to conclusions, to talk to you, to give you the benefit of the doubt. That hug in the picture? It was appreciation, nothing more.”

She shook her head, her breath uneven. “Yes, I went to the penthouse instead of the mansion, but that was because I needed to clear my head before calling you. But just like when I came to your office, you weren’t picking up my calls.”

“Doll-” Lucian’s voice cracked as he reached for her shoulders, his heart twisting at the pain in her voice and the tears spilling from her eyes.

She stepped back sharply. “Don’t touch me.”

Her voice dropped to a shiver. “After almost two days of you not picking up my calls, I find out you’re cheating on me.”

Lucian’s voice was taut with frustration, his brows drawn tight as he tried to steady his tone. “Alina, I didn’t cheat on you. I didn’t answer your calls at the office because Ace and I had stepped out for a few minutes… we left our phones behind.”

Alina let out a sharp, humorless scoff, her arms crossing over her chest. “How convenient.” Her eyes narrowed. “And why didn’t either of you return my calls then?”

“Because we never saw any calls from you.” He said firmly, meeting her glare head–on.

Her jaw tightened, voice laced with bitter disbelief. “Do I look stupid to you?”

“I’m serious,” Lucian shot back, his tone edged with urgency. “When I checked the CCTV, I saw that Jessica had cleared the record of you contacting both me and Ace.”
