Chapter 188
AUTHOR’S POV.
The door swung open, and Alina nearly collided with a man stepping out. His suit was sharp, every line immaculate, his face composed and unreadable, until his gaze landed on her.
His eyes widened, shock breaking through his controlled exterior.
“Dahlia.” He whispered, the name trembling from his lips.
Alina blinked in confusion, taken aback by the intensity of his stare. “Oh…I’m so sorry.” She said quickly, stepping back.
The man, who just moments ago looked unshakably collected, stuttered over his words. “N–no, it was my fault. Please, you shouldn’t worry about it.”
Before she could say more, Lucian was already on his feet behind his desk. His steps were decisive as he closed the space, his hand sliding firmly around Alina’s waist, pulling her to his side.
He leaned down, brushing a soft kiss against her forehead, his voice gentler than his eyes. “Are you alright baby?”
Alina nodded, a small smile curving her lips at his protectiveness. “I’m fine.” She murmured, clearing her throat as her gaze flicked subtly toward the stranger again. Her curiosity lingered, silently waiting for Lucian to fill the gap of introduction.
Lucian’s jaw flexed, reluctant, but courtesy won out. “Alina, this is Damien Evergreen, the man I mentioned I had a meeting with earlier.” His tone shifted, formal and clipped. “And Damien, this is my fiancée, Alina Dawn.”
Alina extended her hand with a polite smile. “It’s nice meeting you, Mr. Evergreen.”
Damien’s hand closed around hers, his eyes still locked on her with an intensity that unsettled. “Nice meeting you too Dah…Alina.” He corrected softly, though his voice seemed distracted, weighted.
He didn’t release her hand, holding on longer than courtesy allowed, until Lucian cleared his throat pointedly and slid Alina’s hand away, his protective hold firm once again.
“Weren’t you leaving, Damien?” Lucian asked, his voice edged with steel.
Alina nudged his side with a sharp elbow, shooting him a disapproving glance for the tone he used.
Damien, however, seemed unfazed. His expression didn’t even twitch. “Oh, yes.” He gave Lucian a polite nod, but his eyes lingered one last time on Alina before he finally turned and walked out.
The door clicked shut behind him, and Alina immediately turned on Lucian, her brows lifting as she crossed
her arms. “That was rude.”
Lucian loosened his tie and walked toward the sofa with the air of someone unconcerned. “I have no reason to be nice to a man who doesn’t want to do business with me.”

Alina followed, shaking her head but unable to suppress a small laugh. “Still, you know that’s petty.”
“I don’t care,” Lucian said, sinking into the sofa. His tone was flat, but a flicker of irritation passed his eyes. “It’s obvious the deal would benefit him, but for some reason, he’s being stubborn.”
“Damien Evergreen…” Alina echoed the name softly, her brow furrowed. “That’s not familiar. I haven’t heard it in Elaris before.”
Lucian leaned back, loosening his posture slightly. “He’s not from Elaris. Damien’s from Ravienne. I want to extend my business into that city, and the Evergreen family is the right channel to go through. But for some reason, he doesn’t want to work with me.”
