Chapter 245
AUTHOR’S POV.
“I apologize to everyone for the disruption,” he said evenly, each word measured and deliberate. “But I’m afraid there will be no wedding happening today.”
Gasps rippled through the guests once more, but Darius didn’t elaborate. He just gave a curt nod, his expression unreadable, and at his silent command, guards in dark suits began moving swiftly through the pews, ushering the bewildered guests out of the cathedral.
The room filled with murmurs, the shuffle of heels against marble and the faint echo of confusion. The sacred air of what was supposed to be a wedding now felt like a battlefield aftermath as holy candles still flickering beside crushed rose petals scattered across the floor.
Lucian’s hand tightened around Alina’s fingers, his grip almost bruising. His jaw flexed, a storm gathering behind his eyes. His glare locked on Darius, dark and seething, but he didn’t move.
He couldn’t.
Even the most powerful man in Elaris City knew better than to defy Darius Evergreen even inside his own territory.
The older man stood tall before the altar, unflinching beneath the silent accusations. His power didn’t come from the guns his men carried or the wealth that sustained his empire, it came from the quiet, absolute certainty that he never lost.
Lucian’s chest heaved, the muscle in his jaw ticking. His voice, low and restrained, cut through the tense silence.
“Call off your men, Darius.”
But Darius didn’t even glance at him. “Take her home.” He said coldly, his tone carrying the weight of command as he addressed one of his men.
“Home?” Lucian hissed. “She is my-”
Before he could finish, Alina’s hand slipped from his grip. Her eyes fluttered once, wide with confusion and exhaustion, then rolled back. Her knees gave out beneath her.
“Alina!”
Lucian caught her just before her head hit the floor. Her body was limp, her breathing shallow. He gathered her against him, panic slicing through his chest like a blade.
“Alina, look at me,” he said urgently, brushing a trembling hand across her face. Her skin was cold. “Damn it, open your eyes.”
Damien was beside him in seconds, kneeling. “She fainted,” he said quickly. “She’s exhausted, the shock-”
“Get the doctor now!” Lucian’s voice thundered through the cathedral.

“Already on it” Damien barked at one of the guards, who rushed toward the exit.
Darius stood unmoving, his sharp eyes flickering toward his unconscious daughter, his expression, for the briefest moment, softening into something like regret. Then it vanished, replaced by that same impenetrable calm.
“Make sure she’s taken somewhere safe.” He ordered Damien quietly, his gaze never meeting Lucian’s.
Lucian looked up at him slowly, eyes dark as night. “You’re making a mistake.”
Darius didn’t respond. He turned and began to walk toward the exit, his footsteps echoing with the kind of quiet authority that silenced every word that might have followed.
As the Evergreens and Lucian’s men bent over Alina’s unconscious form, no one noticed the tall man slipping out through the side entrance. He moved like a shadow, his aura was laced with quiet confidence. There was something chillingly composed about him and the air around him carried the kind of authority that didn’t need to be spoken.
He paused for a moment at the doors, glancing once over his shoulder. His eyes caught the sight of Lucian kneeling beside Alina, desperation etched across his face. A faint smirk tugged at his lips. Then he turned and stepped into the sunlight, disappearing into the waiting black car parked discreetly across the street.
The same man Lucian had been hunting for months, the one who had taunted him from the shadows had been right there in the cathedral the entire time. But Lucian was too consumed by Alina’s lifeless form to notice.
As the night deepened. Somewhere in the city, a single police vehicle sped down the highway, its siren blaring into the dark. Inside the backseat of one of it, Silas and Elena sat handcuffed, faces pale under the red–blue flash of lights.
Elena’s eyes were glassy, unfocused. “This can’t be happening,” she whispered, voice trembling. “Silas, they can’t do this to us. We’ll lose everything-”
“Shut up!” Silas snapped, his nerves frayed. Sweat beaded across his forehead. “I’m thinking.”
Before she could respond, the shrill wait of sirens was abruptly drowned out by screeching tires.
The driver cursed, slamming the brakes. “What the hell-?”
A black van cut across the road, blocking their path. Before the officers could react, the van doors burst open, and masked men stepped out, rifles raised. Gunfire shattered the night.
The first officer slumped over the wheel. The second barely reached for his weapon before a bullet tore through his chest.
Silas screamed, ducking. Elena’s shrill cry pierced through the chaos. “Silas! What’s happening?!”
The car doors were yanked open, and rough hands dragged them out.
“Move!” One of the armed men barked, shoving them toward the waiting van.

“Move!”

They were shoved inside, the van doors slamming shut behind them. The smell of gasoline and blood hung thick in the air as the vehicle sped away into the night.
When they were finally dragged out again, the air smelled of rust and sea salt. A dimly lit warehouse stretched before them, its cold steel walls echoing as drops of water fell from the leaking ceiling.
