Ariana was telling the truth. At first, she only wanted to help the White family. However, as time went by, she began to realize how many people would be hurt if they discovered her contractual marriage with Lambert was a sham.
She started to come around and decided to succumb to Lambert's intentional and unintentional seduction.
Even though Ariana knew part of the reason she ended up in a de facto marriage with Lambert was due to guilt from lying, the bigger part was because of who Lambert was as a person.
Griffin was at a loss when he heard Ariana’s candid answer to his question, even though he got the confirmation he wanted. He had also learned about Ariana’s real thoughts.
"Is it worth it?" His voice was tinged with bitterness, a mix of regret and helplessness.
Ariana smiled, "Griffin, if you were in my place, you might've done the same."
He hesitated, "But... Lambert's reputation isn't all that good!"
Griffin felt it was unfair for a girl like Ariana to marry a frivolous man like Lambert.
At his words, Ariana thought of Lambert's mysterious layers. She found herself unsure.
Indeed, there were numerous rumors about Lambert's scandalous love life, but when she interacted with him, he was suave instead of the notorious playboy she had heard about.
At times, Ariana wondered if this was an image Lambert intentionally projected. Yet, she remembered the three women, each claiming to be pregnant with his child, which she saw the first time in the hospital.
Nevertheless, Ariana decided to believe in her intuition, "I don't know what he's like outside, but when I'm with him, he doesn't seem like a wastrel!"
Hearing Ariana defending Lambert, Griffin looked gloomy. "Alright then! I wish you happiness."
He initially wanted to counsel Ariana, but seeing her so staunchly defending Lambert, he understood how serious her intentions were.
Ariana paused slightly, "Thank you!"
After some contemplation, Griffin insisted, "Can I collaborate with the Stone Group and let you be in charge of the project when the time comes?"
"I'm sorry, Mr. Meadows, but you'll have to discuss this matter with the sales staff of the Stone Group."
At this moment, a thick and pleasing voice chock-full of mockery and indifference came from Lambert, "How did you get here?"
Ariana was taken aback by Lambert's sudden appearance and stood up in surprise.
The thought that Lambert could have been tracking her made her feel somewhat uneasy.
Upon hearing this, Lambert glanced at Ariana with a smile and calmly said, "I came specifically to find you for a reason."
She didn't believe Lambert's nonsense. She was about to refute it but remembered that Griffin was still there, so she didn't say anything.
After all, at this time, if Griffin saw anything, it would be a bit bad.
Unexpectedly seeing Lambert appear, Griffin was slightly stunned, but still stood up and extended his hand politely, "Hello, I'm Ari's senior, Griffin!"
"I know who you are."
Lambert didn't bother to shake his hand, he just studied him with a scrutinizing gaze, full of hostility.
Although Ariana was annoyed by Lambert's abrasiveness, she could still understand him. Nonetheless, upon hearing his words, she couldn't resist smiling.
Hearing Ariana's unapologetic laughter, Lambert shut the door with a crisp 'thwack', went to the driver's seat without exchanging a word with Ariana, and drove off. The gloomy expression on his face was a clear indicator of his poor mood.
Taking a stealthy glance at Lambert, Ariana mused that he seemed rather cute when angry.
She shifted her body slightly, inching closer to Lambert. Seizing the opportunity when he was not paying attention, she kissed him quickly on the cheek and sat up straight back in her seat with lightning speed.
Lambert never expected that Ariana would actually sneak a kiss in this situation. He was somewhat touched, but there was no way he would forgive her just because of this one kiss.
However, his gloomy expression did seem to have improved quite a bit.
"Lambert, when you pulled me out earlier, I was quite happy," Ariana suddenly confessed with a smile, "It feels like I'm not even married yet and we're dating."
Her words seemed to grip Lambert's heart, causing it to skip a beat. He hadn't realized earlier that only seeing Ariana and Griffin together would make him this upset.
"Who knew that Ariana would get married before dating? Thinking about it that way, it seems rather romantic, doesn't it?" Ariana asked in all seriousness, as she looked at Lambert.
Lambert, who had been fuming, oddly found his heartbeat quickening under Ariana's gaze, his anger dissipating into thin air.
Ariana shrugged and relaxed slightly. "Actually, I see Griffin just as a friend. You really don't have to fret, there's no way we could go any further."
"I wasn't bothered." Lambert, still with an icy expression, inwardly felt a strange happiness because of Ariana's explanation. Her earnest endeavor to explain seemed to hint at how much she cared for him.
