Chapter 71
Unable to hate her?
Her voice held such conviction I couldn’t help asking, “Why are you so sure?”
I didn’t delude myself. With what Claire and I did, even a saint would resent her. Yet Claire sounded certain Lilith still saw her as a friend.
Her lips curved into a mysterious smile. “Because I have a cheat code–a surefire way of knowing how she feels about me.
A surefire way? That sounded dubious.
But before I could pry further, she cut me off. “Don’t ask. I can’t tell you what it is.”
The air turned a little awkward.
My irritation simmered at her repeated lack of respect, but I forced it down. Again.
“Why bring her up all of a sudden anyway?” she asked casually.
“Haven’t you noticed?” I said. “The video, my post, your livestream–and anything related to them, has been shadow–banned.”
“Shadow–banned?” Claire sat up, startled. “Did the Caldwells do it?”
“No. It’s not them.” I shook my head. “I looked into it. Raven Entertainment is behind it.‘
“Raven Entertainment?” Her eyes widened. “The same company I’m thinking of? Why would they meddle in this?”
My voice turned cold. “I suspect this ties back to Dean,” I said, his name leaving a bad taste in my mouth.
Claire arched a brow. “He has ties to Raven Entertainment? Seems your half–brother isn’t some run–of–the–mill nobody. He has unexpected connections.”
Her comment grated on my nerves, and my voice chilled further. “Not with the company. Just with Callum Moore, their president. They were childhood friends.”

She chuckled. “Is there even a difference? He knows the company’s top executive. That’s as good as being affiliated.”
Then she added in a light tone. “But I’ve got to admit that your half–brother’s turning out to be a real nuisance. He even made Lilith expose our relationship at the banquet. It makes me wonder how long they’ve been in contact before that day.”
She leaned forward slightly, her tone conspiratorial. “Do you think she’s fallen for him? Is that why she listens to him so much?”
Her words hit a raw nerve.
Lilith was never in love with me–I knew that. All I meant to her was a way out of her parents‘ control.
But the idea of her loving someone else–especially him, of all people–gnawed at me.
Dean, the person I hated most in this world.
The one I could never replace in Grandpa’s heart no matter how hard I tried.
He was too perfect. Too dazzling.
Even now, among all the grandchildren, his place in Grandpa’s heart was uncontested.
In fact, If he hadn’t left the country, I’d never have been accepted into the Scott family the way I was.
It was only because he wasn’t there that I’d had a chance to build all I currently had.
Subconsciously, I refusedto believe that Lilith would fall in love with him.
Yet Claire’s words brought back that rooftop café scene.
The unspoken intimacy between them.
The way Lilith looked at him.
She’d never looked at me like that.
My jaw tightened. Could Claire be right?
If so, Lilith was an ungrateful little sl*t who didn’t know what was good for her.

Once the engagement is restored. I’ll teach her a good lesson and make sure she learns her place.
I silently swore this to myself.
Claire’s voice cut into my thoughts.
“That being said,” she drawled, “will Raven Entertainment’s involvement mess things up? They are the industry giant, after all.”
