Chapter 107
DEAN
I had never forgotten the situation in my second dream–how that woman, Claire, seemed to be protected by some mysterious force.
No way was I letting Lilith meet someone like that face–to–face.
Maybe I was overreacting, but the thought of that dream coming true terrified me–like I had fallen into an ice cave.
So no. I wouldn’t allow their meeting to happen.
“Dean.”
Lilith’s voice snapped me out of my thoughts, and I turned to find her watching me, worry etched in her eyes.
“Are you okay?” she asked softly. “I’m not sure what happened, but I’ve noticed since you came back from Agate Country–you get tense whenever I mention those two, even without saying their names. Did something happen that I don’t know about?”
Had I really been that obvious?
Come to think of it, she was right. While we were teasing each other yesterday, she’d casually brought them up, and I’d acted jumpy and quickly changed the topic.
Sigh.
Rubbing my forehead, I gave a weary smile. “It’s nothing. I guess I’m just afraid they’ll hurt you again.”
I forced out a small chuckle. “Maybe I’ll only be at peace after they’re convicted and locked away.
But even as I said it, I knew it wasn’t true.
Because deep down, even that wouldn’t be enough to put me at ease.
I’d already made up my mind–once they were behind bars, I’d make sure they received ‘special‘
treatment.

Meanwhile, Lilith didn’t respond right away. She only nodded slightly, her expression unreadable
I couldn’t tell if she believed me or not
Then, a moment later, she turned to face me fully. Her eyes were steady and resolute.
“But. Dean… I have to go.”
I frowned instantly, but before I could speak, she raised a hand to stop me.
“Listen first.”

“The truth is, even if Claire hadn’t reached out, I’d already decided to meet her after the trial. I just didn’t expect her to get impatient and invite me first.”
Confusion flickered in my eyes. “But why go see her? Someone who’s done nothing but hurt you since day one. At least, I know it’s not because you’re planning to forgive her.”
A faint smile tugged at her lips.
“You’re right. I’m not–and I never will.”

Then her eyes darkened, her tone icy. “But there are things I need to ask her. Answers only she can give me. That’s probably why she wants to see me too.”
She paused, then added quietly, “Honestly, if you hadn’t asked, I wouldn’t have told you about this, and probably would’ve gone behind your back. But since you did… I didn’t want to lie.”
I exhaled heavily and looked away, the corners of my lips twitching.
“You’re getting better at handling me, huh?”
Honestly, what else could I say?
With that, I started the car. The engine roared to life, filling the silence between us.
Then, barely audible over the hum, I heard her murmur, “Thank you…”
A faint smile crept up my lips.
My woman. What else could I do but indulge her?

After registering our information at the front desk, a guard escorted Dean and me down to the visitation room and left
As Dean reached for the doorknob, I caught his wrist before he could push it open.
“Wait for me outside,” I said softly.
His brows drew together. “Are you sure?”
I nodded, my gaze firm and cold. “I need to do this alone.”
For a moment, he searched my face, weighing whether he could convince me otherwise. Then, with a quiet sigh, he stepped back.
“Don’t take too long.”
I nodded again, pushed the door open, and stepped inside.
Instantly, the air felt colder–whether from the air conditioning or something else, I couldn’t tell.
Claire was already seated, waiting for me. A thick glass wall divided the room into two halves, just like the reality between us.
For a long moment, I simply stood there and looked at her.
She was a mess. The elegance she’d once flaunted was gone without a trace. Her once–lustrous and impeccably maintained hair was messy and tangled, her complexion dull and lifeless.
And yet, even now, her gaze was sharp–sticky and unsettling, like a viper coiling around its prey as she observed me as well.
I ignored the discomfort crawling beneath my skin, thinking that whatever she was now, she was harmless and no longer in control.
Afterward, I sat down, lifted the receiver, and pressed it to my ear.
For a few seconds, neither of us spoke. Only the faint static filled the silence.
