He studied me, then nodded, sensing I meant it.

Later, he coaxed me over to his villa for a light dinner, then brought me back.

At the front door, as he turned to leave, an impulse made me stop him.

“Dean.”

“What is it?” His gaze met mine.

“I…” The words caught in my throat. I had no idea what to say.

In the end, all I managed was: “Thank you. For today. For everything.”

I didn’t

expect him to step closer and brush his fingers against my cheek, his touch feather–light.

For a heartbeat, I thought he’d do something more–but he simply withdrew his hand and said softly.

Afterwards, I freshened up and all but collapsed into bed, both mentally and physically drained.

Just then, my phone buzzed.

Seems like she knew about it already, I thought.

“Lilith!” Her voice exploded the moment I answered. “I heard you actually moved out? Is that

true?”

I sighed resignedly. “I’m pretty sure you confirmed it before calling, so why ask again?”

“So it’s true?! Unbelievable.” She sounded half–stunned, half–delighted. “I honestly thought you’d spend your whole youth trapped there until you were married off.”

“How? You’ve never worked a day in your life. Your finances are entirely–wait.” Her voice dropped conspiratorially. “Did you anticipate this and secretly transfer money already?”

I rolled my eyes. “No. It’s personal income. From my work-”

Halfway through explaining, I realized she wouldn’t believe me no matter what I said. So I

relented.
