Chapter 127
“Sure, if she wants it, let her have it!”
Bianca’s palms were sweaty, filled with tension and reluctance, when Emily finally gave her answer.
But this answer took everyone by surprise.
Allan didn’t argue with Emily. Instead, he nodded with a smile, “Alright, let’s do as you say.”
Emily nodded, then said goodbye to Allan and left with Sophia.
Once they were out of Bianca’s sight, Sophia couldn’t help but ask, “Emily, you clearly can’t stand those two. Why did you agree to their request? They won’t appreciate it. They’ll probably call you stupid behind your back and say you’re trying to please them!”
Emily knew exactly what they would think of her.
But she wanted to keep them guessing and then deliver a heavy blow to Bianca.
“You said it yourself, I can’t stand them. Do you think I’d let them off easy? I have my reasons!”
Sophia’s eyes lit up, and she gave a knowing, mysterious smile. “I get it. There’s going to be a good show. So, Emily, are you going to participate in this art exhibition too?”
She wanted to show Emily how much her painting had improved. It was a sense of accomplishment.
Emily saw through Sophia’s little scheme but didn’t expose her. She just smiled and nodded, “Yes, of course, I’ll be participating.”
Meanwhile, Bianca and Finn were still sweet–talking Allan before they finally left.
Bianca’s smile vanished immediately, and she said worriedly, “Finn, I’m grateful that Emily agreed to let my painting be in the spotlight, but you’ve seen how she’s been treating me lately. Her sudden change makes me uneasy!”
Finn reassured her, “Don’t worry. I’m not easily fooled either. Just show your best work. If she tries to sabotage it, I’ll have people watching and cameras ready. If she makes a move, I’ll make sure she ruins herself.”
“Finn, you’re the best.”
Bianca felt a bit relieved.
She then thought about how Sophia and Emily left together, seemingly excited about something.
So she suggested, “Emily’s been busy with something lately. I’m a bit uneasy. Why don’t we follow them and see?”
Finn had the same thought. Since Bianca suggested it, he immediately agreed, “Alright, let’s follow them.”
They watched as Emily got into Sophia’s car and drove off.
Bianca dropped her frail act, quickly got into the car, and urged Finn to follow.
Chapter 127
If Finn had been paying more attention, he might have noticed this, but his focus was entirely on Emily. He quickly got in and sped off
after them.
Their attempt at following wasn’t exactly subtle.
Even Sophia, who wasn’t a professional, noticed. “Emily, I think that car behind us is following. Whose car is it? Should I pull over and let you get away?”
Emily found Sophia’s naivety endearing.
‘Don’t worry about it. I know who it is!
She was very familiar with that license plate.
In her past life, when Finn got into trouble, she had tracked him down using that car.
She was eager for them to make a move so she could have a legitimate reason to deal with them.
Soon, Emily had Sophia park the car in front of the Johnson Group building.
Isaac and Byron were already there, waiting for Emily.
As soon as they saw her, Isaac came over, “Emily, you’re here. Shall we go upstairs?”
Byron, grinning, rushed over.
Sophia had a bit of a history with Byron. Even though Emily had dealt with him before, she instinctively blocked him, “What do you want? It’s broad daylight—”
Byron brushed her aside with a big hand, looking obsequious, “Ms. Johnson, finally, you’re here. I’m looking forward to seeing you in
action!”
“Ms. Johnson?”
Sophia’s eyes widened in shock as she looked at Byron.
Byron puffed out his chest, “Yeah, exactly. I’m Ms. Johnson’s right–hand man now. The one and only. You step aside!”
He seemed worried that Sophia would take his place.
Sophia wasn’t having it. She was Emily’s first right–hand person. “Emily is mine. She found me a great teacher and introduced me to important people. What do you have?”
“That’s nothing. Ms. Johnson showed me what top–tier really means. She even gave me two million dollars.”
Emily cleared her throat, stopping their argument.
She suddenly felt a headache coming on.
Chapter 127
She had thought having more helpers would be useful, but now it seemed like it might not be such a great idea.
Isaac chuckled, I didn’t expect you to be so influential, Emily. And you have other helpers too.”
Emily felt like she was being teased.
She gave an awkward smile, It’s nothing. They’re just being kind. Mr. Reyes, shall we go upstairs?*
So, the group, including the technical staff and assistants for the project, headed inside.
When Bianca and Finn arrived, they saw Emily entering the Johnson Group with a group of people.
Bianca frowned. She thought she saw Byron.
Considering Daniel’s interest in Emily, her eyes narrowed with calculation.
