“Are you really gonna waste your time standing here with me?”

Emily’s voice was icy.

James was caught off guard, his sadness quickly morphing into arrogance.

He turned to Bianca with a forced gentleness, “You should’ve told me you were coming. I would’ve picked you up myself. Come on, let’s head inside together.”

It was as if he had been waiting for Bianca, not Emily.

Bianca flashed a sweet smile, “James, I knew you were waiting just for me.”

But inside, she was fuming. She knew James was using her to get under Emily’s skin. It used to be that she would use James to annoy Emily, but now she was the one at a disadvantage.

Emily didn’t even glance at them. Eli, however, observed the scene with a calculating look in his eyes. He nodded approvingly.

Emily was no stranger to the Smith Villa. In the past, the Smith family had treated her with disdain, often leaving her to be greeted by a single elder or just the servants. But today, the entire Smith family was present: Kade, James’s grandparents, and Yara.

As Emily walked in, Kade surprised her with a warm smile and an invitation to sit. “Emily, you’re here. Please, have a seat!”

Then he noticed Bianca trailing closely behind James. His sharp eyes flashed with insight. He greeted Eli but deliberately ignored Bianca.

Bianca felt a sinking feeling. She realized Kade didn’t like her. Even if she managed to get rid of Emily, marrying James might still be out

of reach.

Kade, seeing everyone was present, began to speak, “Eli, normally, once a marriage is arranged, it shouldn’t be called off. But now the kids have grown up and have their own ideas. They both want to break off the engagement, so we should respect their wishes.”

James’s face was stern, his gaze fixed on Emily.

Eli hadn’t expected Kade to be so direct, without any small talk. He had no choice but to agree, “You’re right. The kids have their own thoughts. But the marriage was arranged for their future and to strengthen the bond between our families. Now, Emily and James are not a good match. Emily is far beneath James. However, I see James and Bianca get along well. Bianca has been raised with the best education and is quite accomplished. She would be a suitable match for James.”

Eli agreed with Kade but didn’t forget his own agenda.

Emily sneered inwardly at Eli’s words. He was so eager to promote Bianca. They hadn’t even officially called off the engagement, and he was already introducing Bianca. Anyone would think the Johnson family’s daughter was a cheap commodity.

The Smith family probably thought replacing Emily with Bianca was a cause for celebration.

Yara couldn’t help but speak up, “There’s no rush. James just broke off the engagement. He needs some time, or people will think he’s desperate.”

Her subtle rejection made Eli uncomfortable, and Bianca, standing nearby, felt humiliated. She knew it wouldn’t be easy. Eli’s suggestion was just to warm up the Smith family to the idea. If they were to arrange a new engagement, it would have to be without Emily present.

Yara’s words were a slap in the face to the Johnson family, clearly showing their disdain for Bianca. Bianca was livid, thinking that Yara, who had clawed her way up to her position as a mistress, had no right to look down on her. Blanca had the status of the Johnson family’s daughter and was exceptional in every way. How dare Yara despise her?

But Bianca knew she couldn’t rush things. Just then, she felt a gaze on her. She turned to see Emily smiling mockingly, as if to say, ‘Even if I break off the engagement, you won’t get James.”

Bianca clenched her fists, growing more anxious. What could she do to prevent the Smith family from breaking off the engagement with the Johnson family?

Her eyes still on Emily, she suddenly had an idea. Emily had mocked her earlier, saying, “You know medicine, don’t you recognize these symptoms?”

Could it be that she was pregnant? If she were, it could only be James’s child. Even if she wasn’t, she needed to pretend she was.

Bianca, thinking this, gave Emily a challenging look. But Emily was called over by Kade.

“Emily, I heard you initiated the breakup. But considering the years of the relationship, and since James agreed to it, we will compensate you with a house. Do you have any objections?”

Kade’s offer of compensation indicated they had no intention of changing the engagement to Bianca. It was a subtle rejection of Eli’s proposal.

Eli’s face darkened. If this were the case, it would be better not to break off the engagement. Ending the relationship with the Smith family would harm the Johnson family’s business. That was all Emily’s fault.

He glared at Emily and then smiled, “James and Emily have been through a lot together. Their bond is special. I need to ask James’s opinion. James, are you sure you want to break off the engagement with Emily? No regrets?”

James didn’t answer immediately. Yara couldn’t help but say, “James might be worried that breaking off the engagement will end their bond. Emily, even if you break off the engagement, you can still be like siblings.”

Eli, seeing James’s hesitation, ignored Yara and said, “James, I know your bond is special. Think carefully and tell me how you feel about breaking off the engagement.”

James looked at Emily with a complex expression and said, “Emily, if you say you regret it and admit I was right, I’ll give you one last

chance.”

Eli’s eyes lit up at this. He pushed Emily, “James is talking to you. Apologize!”

He lowered his voice threateningly, “If you dare break off the engagement, you’ll face my wrath. I have ways to deal with everything you

care about!”
