Revenge Wears My Ring novel Chapter 264

“Nothing unusual from Mr. Boyd’s end… Seems like he’s been holed up at his own company lately. But Julian suddenly showing up? He’s definitely up to no good! Gwyneth, you need to watch your back. That guy’s as sly as a fox—wouldn’t put it past him to stab you in the back when you’re not looking.”

Gwyneth paused for a moment, realizing Lance had a point.

Julian returning to Locke Group at a time like this couldn’t possibly be unrelated to Harvest Group’s troubles.

“Got it.”

Her voice grew calm again. “You stay sharp too. Don’t get sloppy and hand anyone ammunition against you.”

“Hey, you got it, Gwyneth! Don’t worry about me!”

Lance agreed in a rush. After hanging up, he pressed a hand to his pounding chest and let out a long breath.

Safe for now… but how long can I keep this under wraps?

God help me.

Gwyneth put down her phone, still mulling over Julian’s sudden return to Locke Group’s headquarters and whether it might affect Bennett.

Thinking of Bennett, she suddenly realized he hadn’t come home all day. Was it because of that phone call the other night?

Or was it something else?

“Oh, stop it. Just stop overthinking.”

Annoyed, she raked her fingers through her hair. She wasn’t making it into the office today anyway, not with reporters camping outside. She might as well take advantage and catch up on some sleep.

She yanked the covers over her head and dove back into bed.

She slept straight through until late afternoon, only waking up when hunger gnawed her awake.

“So hungry…”

She pressed a hand to her rumbling stomach, stumbled out of bed, and shuffled downstairs in her slippers.

“Let’s see if Mia’s made dinner yet…”

As she reached the staircase, a mouthwatering aroma drifted up, making her stomach growl even louder.

“Oh wow, that smells amazing!”

Eyes lighting up, she followed the scent into the dining room.

Sure enough, the table was already set with a spread that looked and smelled incredible: glazed barbecue ribs, perfectly steamed fish, and a medley of fresh, colorful vegetables.

“This looks incredible! And it smells even better!”

She couldn’t help but exclaim, grabbing a fork and promptly stabbing the biggest rib on the plate, shoving it into her mouth before anyone else could even show up. Chewing with delight, she mumbled around her full cheeks,

“Mia, you’re a genius! Seriously, how do you cook like this? Though… it’s just me here, Be—”

She paused, remembering the guy she hadn’t seen all day. Her voice dropped a notch.

“—I guess he’s not eating at home tonight.”

Mouth still full, cheeks puffed out, she reached for some fish.

Just then, steady footsteps sounded from the kitchen, coming closer.
