A SURPRISE VISIT

-CLAIRE’S POV-

I tossed my phone on the table, feeling absolutely fucking pissed. What in the world was Monica thinking? I had just listened to the most disturbing audio clip of Richard and Monica.

They were fucking and she thought it was ok to send me that shit?!

I pulled my hair back in frustration and flopped down on my bed. Just then, I heard a sleepy voice beside me.

“What’s going on, Claire?” Alexander asked, blinking his eyes open. He seemed groggy.

Tch, he must have just woken up.

“Monica!” I spat out, sitting up straight.

“What did she do this time?” he asked, propping himself up on one elbow, a lazy smile on his face. Was he finding this funny?

“She sent me an audio clip of her and Richard… you know, doing stuff,” I exclaimed, my voice rising in irritation.

He raised an eyebrow, suppressing a chuckle. “Are we talking about sex stuff or just… normal stuff?”

“It was definitely sex stuff,” I groaned, burying my face in my hands. “I mean, come on! I thought she was better than that! She’s the queen of scheming and pranks, and she settles for something like this?”

“Sounds like she’s trying to get a rise out of you,” he said, chuckling softly. He definitely was half asleep for him to be laughing about it.

“From what I’ve heard, it seems Monica loves to mess with your head, yes?”

“Well, obviously!” I shot back, feeling my cheeks heat up. “But I didn’t expect her to resort to creepy audio recordings! I’m not ready for that level of stupid. It was gross!”

More like bloody irritating if you ask me.

“Just ignore it,” he suggested, leaning back against the pillows. “Don’t give her the satisfaction of knowing it got to you. You were going to go back to sleep, weren’t you?”

“Yes. Good night.”

Who did Monica think she was?

Morning quickly came around and I had with it a long list of things to do that snapped me out of my earlier annoyance. I had charity events to plan, and I knew I had to focus.

I quickly got dressed and headed downstairs where Kimberly was already waiting for me with notes and schedules sprawled out on the table.

“Good morning, Madam!” she greeted cheerfully, a fresh cup of coffee in hand. “Ready to deal with today?”

“Good morning to you too. What’s on my schedule today?”

We went over several ideas for charity events. I had a big gala planned to raise funds for the local shelter, and we had a lot of logistics to sort out.

“I think we should do a raffle at the event,” Kimberly suggested, flipping through the notes. “It could bring in a lot of extra donations.”

“Great idea. Let’s make sure to have some awesome prizes lined up. Those always entice people,” I said, getting a headache from all the events but if I wanted to establish myself in high society, I needed to fucking stay at the top of it.

“So what’s next on our agenda?” she asked, jotting down the notes.

“We need to reach out to a few sponsors, get them involved, and then-“I paused, looking at my phone. “Wait, I should check on Alexander, see how he’s doing.”

“Good idea. It’s important to keep him in the loop,” Kimberly replied.

I texted Alexander, asking if he had time to meet up at the office. “He should be there, right?” I asked Kim, glancing up from my phone.

“Definitely. He’s been swamped with meetings today, though. If you see him, let him know he needs to take a break,” Kimberly said with a playful smirk.

After a few minutes filled with planning and finalising ideas for the charity events, I decided it was time to head to the company. The drive was quick and soon enough, we were there.

I parked my car and made my way into the building. Once I reached Alexander’s office, I knocked on the door and pushed it open.

“Surprise!” I exclaimed, stepping inside.

Alexander and I had a lot of roles to play for society and one of them was the sweet and happy couple who loved being together. It was the perfect image and I was planning to play my part to the fullest.

“Hello hunie. I was in the area and I decided to swing by.”

All eyes in the room turned to me as if I had just crashed a serious meeting. Everyone looked a bit startled.” Claire!” Alexander said, standing up quickly, a wide grin spreading on his face.

“Hi! Sorry to interrupt,”

“It’s fine! Just… I didn’t expect you,” he replied, and I could see the way his excitement seemed to lighten the room. Damn if he wasn’t a good actor.

“Clearly! Should I have scheduled an appointment?” I teased.

“I mean, we’re always open to seeing you, no scheduling necessary.” He winked as he gestured for me to come

over.

“Let’s call off the meeting and-”
