Even if the Lancasters refused to acknowledge cutting off ties with Claudia, Sterling’s presence behind her was enough to silence them.

Besides, Claudia’s stance tonight had been clear. She hadn’t hesitated to air the family’s shame in front of everyone. Whether she actually cut ties or not, outsiders would see it as the same thing.

By tomorrow, the Lancasters‘ scandal will be the talk of the entire circle.

“Did it really have to come to this?” Clarence’s voice was strained.

“I can understand your resentment. But aren’t you guilty at all for pushing our parents to this point? We could have found a gentler way to talk things through.”

“I tried.” Claudia smirked. “A gentler way. But did you ever once listen to me?

“Today, I’m able to stand here and speak with you only because I fought back. If I didn’t have the strength to resist, I would’ve been spat on by everyone, forced into marriage with a man who hurt me, only to be betrayed and mocked again. Tell me–would you have stood up for me then?”

“How do you know I wouldn’t?”

Her eyes were clear and bright as she replied, “Because your actions have told me the answer a thousand times over.”

Clarence was speechless. A trace of pain crossed his handsome features.

Once she caught her breath, Lottie suddenly came rushing up from behind.

She grabbed Claudia’s hand as tears streamed down her face. “No, you can’t cut us off. Claudia, I’m your mother. Don’t you want me anymore?”
