Mandy sat calmly at the center. Wilson and Clarence sat on the side, their faces tense.

Wilson’s veins throbbed in rage. The stress and lack of sleep are stripping him of his usual

composure.

“Ms. Zimmer,” Wilson said through clenched teeth, “this is not what we agreed to.”

Mandy spread her hands in mock helplessness. “Lydia’s crime was clear. She hired someone to kill someone, and the evidence was ironclad. The Jensens are pushing the appeal. Even if I wanted to help, I can’t just ignore the law. Getting her sentence reduced to two months is already the best I can do.”

Clarence’s face darkened. “You took a giant slice of the pie but handed us back a barely satisfying result. Aren’t you afraid of biting off more than you can chew, Ms. Zimmer?”

Mandy gave him a sly smile. “To be honest, if you hadn’t shown enough sincerity, I wouldn’t have even fought for this. Don’t forget–your daughter caused my cousin to get kicked out of the house. He was one of the only two male offspring in my generation. My grandpa’s furious. He wanted to make things difficult for you. I went against his wishes, and that alone was a big risk.”

The Lancasters had nothing to say.

When their tone softened, Mandy continued with a smooth voice. “It’s just two months. Cover

up and let it pass. I can promise you there won’t be any official notice.”

The father and son left the mansion fuming. But what choice did they have?

He cursed Jasper for losing his mind over a woman. If it weren’t for all the staff watching, I swear he would’ve beaten him right there.”

She paused, her eyes narrowing.

“Wait! Don’t tell me you planned this too?”

With her years of experience, Mandy could see it clearly–Tybalt’s look at Jasper wasn’t just anger. There was disappointment, even the hard edge of final judgment.

If she was right, Jasper’s position as sole heir might be slipping away, though he was still clueless about it.

Claudia said nothing. That silence was answer enough.

Mandy let out a low whistle. “You’re ruthless. I like it.”

The scandal over Lydia’s plagiarism had been milked to the last drop.

If things kept moving this way, the day these people turned on each other would be delicious to watch.

And Lydia? When she got out, she’d cling to Jasper like a ghost.
