Chapter 170 Something Is Wrong

The servants had already cleaned up and left.

Claudia sat alone on the couch, aimlessly scrolling through her phone.

Something had happened to Donovan, but that uneasy feeling in her chest just wouldn’t fade.

She stayed there for maybe an hour or two. The house felt way too silent, and with the rain falling outside, she started to drift off.

When she suddenly woke up, a middleaged man with a gentle face was standing nearby. He looked like he couldn’t decide whether to wake her.

The moment she opened her eyes, he let out a sigh of relief and smiled.

Ms. Lancaster, Mr. Sterling said things are a mess tonight. He asked me to drive you home.

Claudia frowned. Where’s Sterling?

The Romerosdriver scratched at his head. He’s probably still tied up with business.

All the drivers had gone to the hospital, leaving only him at the manor. He’d actually been glad he wouldn’t need to go out in the storm. But then, the lastminute order came.

He wondered why Sterling wanted Claudia gone so late, but as a servant, he couldn’t question it.

Since he clearly knew nothing more, Claudia didn’t bother asking further. She rose from the couch. Alright, let’s go.

She honestly didn’t care where she slept, but something about that didn’t feel right.

Grabbing an umbrella, she headed for the door. Before stepping out, she instinctively looked back.

In the pounding rain, the giant Romero Manor looked like some beast ready to swallow her whole, its fangs flashing in the lightning.

When she reached the car, she suddenly asked, Where’s the regular driver?

The Romerosdriver paused, like remembering only then. He took Mr. Sterling to the hospital. They should be on the way now.”

Claudia’s heart started pounding. Something wasn’t right.

She put her hand on the car door, her voice sharp. Did Sterling call you himself?

The driver shook his head. No.

Was it Nelson?

Not him either.” He looked puzzled about her question but answered honestly, A servant I knew passed the message, saying it came from Mr. Sterling.

That’s impossible!

She might’ve been narcissistic or overthinking, but she was sure Sterling would never leave her behind without a word, even if he had gone to check on Donovan.

Plus, it was raining hard, and the roads were slick, even worse at night. No matter how much he despised the Romeros, he wouldn’t send her out into a storm. It just wasn’t safe.

He’d already told her that if she felt worn out, she could rest in the bamboo garden, which meant she was supposed to stay in the manor tonight.

Something wasn’t right. None of it fit.

Claudia pursed her lips, pulled out her phone, and called Sterling.

First tryno pickup.

She tried the second and third time.

All three calls went unanswered. So she moved on and called Clint.

Clint, get a team to Romero Manor. Right now.

She ended the call and glanced at the driver. Did you park this car at the front yourself?

The driver, uneasy under her sharp tone, quickly shook his head. No, I was going to grab one from the garage, but this one was already here. Someone told me to take it so the entrance wouldn’t get blocked.

Rain was pouring down, and Claudia’s expression turned cold. Watch this car. Don’t let anyone near it.”

After saying that, she turned back toward the manor.

Without hesitation, she bolted into the storm, sprinting for the house.
