Winnie felt an intense rush of satisfaction as she watched Quinton’s face finally change. She didn’t hold back, cursing him with every venomous word she could muster.

“Just look at that wheelchair you’re sitting in. It’s a prison your own son built for you. My child is gone. And your son? He’s as good as dead to you.

“I’m telling you, you’ll never find peace while you’re alive. And even after you’re gone, don’t even think about getting forgiveness from Isabella or her son. Isabella will never love you again, not in this lifetime or the next! When you die, the only name beside yours on the tombstone will be mine. In this life and the next, you’ll never get rid of me!”

Her eyes burned with a mix of love and hatred, the intensity almost painful to witness.

Quinton’s face turned ghostly pale, his hand clenched so tightly on his knee that his knuckles were white, his gaze completely blank.

The glare from the fluorescent light exposed the utter ruin of their marriage, making everything look hopeless.

Winnie went right back to throwing things, laughing, and crying.

She screamed and cursed at Quinton, at Sterling, at Isabella, at the Lloyds–basically everyone in her life.

The door wasn’t fully closed, so Claudia stood outside, listening calmly to the chaos inside.

Yasmin hovered nearby, anxious and unsure if she should push Claudia to intervene.

Mr. Quinton is already injured and in poor health. If Mrs. Winnie loses control and really hurts him, it could be fatal!

Claudia suddenly turned and flashed her a reassuring smile. “Yasmin, do you know where the main power switch is?”

Yasmin nodded, not sure why Claudia was asking this.

Claudia smiled, pulled her away from the door, and whispered, “Go flip the switch. Wait for ten minutes before turning the power back on.”

Seeing her puzzled look, Claudia patted her shoulder. “People can’t think straight when they’re angry. Some darkness might help them cool off.”

She added, “Tell the other servants that no matter what noise they hear, nobody goes in for ten minutes. Let them get it out of their systems first.”

Yasmin nodded. “Okay.”

“Go on, then,” Claudia said with a smile.

Once Yasmin was gone, Claudia returned to the door and placed her hand on the handle.

What the servants called a fight was really just a slap and a few scratches.

Winnie was no fighter, and Quinton would never lay a hand on a woman. At most, he’d pushed her away in self–defense.

People were making a bigger deal of this than necessary.

But that was fine. She was here now.

If they were going to fight, they might as well go all out. Scratching and slapping barely counted.

Right before the lights went out, Claudia—having scoped out the room and its décor through the door crack–burst in, acting all frantic.
