Corbin really did care about his little sister Winnie. But back when he helped Winnie bully other people’s sisters and daughters, where was all this empathy?
Claudia squeezed Sterling’s hand and gave him a sympathetic look.
Her Sterling really had it rough.
Sterling smiled and gently tucked a loose strand of hair behind her car.
This whole scene played out right in front of Kamila, who sat beside Winnie, waiting for the doctor.
Her mood soured even more.
She hadn’t forgotten–it was this woman who’d exposed Winnie’s private matters in public, dragging both the Lloyds and the Romeros through the mud.
With Winnie’s pride, she probably wouldn’t want to leave the house for a long time after this.
“Sterling, don’t you think it’s a bit much to let an outsider get involved in our family’s business? Ms. Lancaster really made a scene for both our families tonight.”
Her tone was all sarcasm and accusation, as if she and Sterling were somehow on the same
team now.
Sterling didn’t take the bait. Ignoring the other family members nearby, he shot back, “We’re not that close yet, Ms. Lloyd. My last name is Romero.”
Kamila bit her lip, her expression stiff.
But Sterling simply smiled again, taking Claudia’s hand. “Maybe Ms. Lloyd didn’t hear me the first time, so let me say it again. Claudia is my girlfriend, my fiancée, and soon she’ll be the one and only Mrs. Romero. If the Lloyds ever want to talk business or discuss family ties, they’ll have to go through her. Claudia gets veto power on everything.”
He made no secret of his preference and affection for Claudia.
Corbin and Kamila’s faces both darkened at his words.
“Enough, Kamila. Let’s check on your Aunt Winnie first.” Miranda put a hand on her daughter’s shoulder, her smile trying to lighten the mood.

She glanced at Claudia, then at Sterling, giving a little laugh and a shake of her head. “You youngsters…
But she left the sentence hanging, as if there was more she wanted to say.
Claudia, still holding Sterling’s hand, tilted her head and replied, “Well, we youngsters are at least clear about saying what we mean, instead of talking in half–finished sentences nobody can understand.”
She even mimicked Miranda’s sigh and head shake.
Now, not even Miranda could force a smile.
Sterling let out a low laugh and pinched Claudia’s cheek. “You’re a handful.”
But he didn’t scold her for talking back to an elder.
Clarissa and Dahlia, who were just watching the drama from the sidelines, actually felt a bit of pity for the Lloyd women.
Why bother with all the passive–aggressive digs?
Neither Claudia nor Sterling is the type to just take a beating without fighting back. Miranda should have known better.
Yvonne took in the Lloyds‘ angry faces and Kamila’s trembling breaths, her mind working.
Just then, Winnie woke up.
Seeing so many people in the room–including her own family–her face turned ghostly pale.
Her chest hurt where she’d slammed into the table, but that was nothing compared to the shame of having her failed marriage on display for everyone to see.
Her lips trembled. She couldn’t get a word out.
