It took Sylvia quite some effort to get Jasper out of his room, hoping he would finally pull himself together.
Yet after just two days and one night on the cruise, he was right back to his old defeated self.
William could tell that Jasper had lost all his fight. The man was done. Humming a tune and twirling his car keys, William left the house in high spirits, pleased at how easily he had taken down his strongest rival.
When Lydia went upstairs, she found that Jasper had moved all his stuff into the guest room.
Fuming, she knocked on the door, only to get a slurred and impatient “What do you want now?” in return.
He knew exactly what Lydia was hoping for, and that was precisely what he refused to give her.
She insisted on marrying him, so fine, they could both fall together.
Looking at her new husband, who was nothing like the confident, charming man he used to be when he was with Claudia, Lydia’s grip on the bank card tightened.
Everyone doubted her, but she would prove them wrong. She would hold a wedding so grand that everyone would envy her.
Jasper was her longest and toughest battle against Claudia, the one she invested in most and won the most beautifully, so she would not let it end in disgrace.
At the airport, Claudia tiptoed and scanned the crowd.
“Claudia!” a cheerful voice called out before she was pulled into a big hug.
Whitney adjusted her sunglasses. “I’m finally back! Come on, my treat tonight. No one’s going home sober.”
Then she remembered, “Oh, and that guy you asked about–I packed up his stuff too. Your man already sent someone to pick it up.”
Claudia smiled. “Thanks, you’re the best.”
Whitney lifted her chin proudly. “Of course, I am. We are best friends for a reason.”

She glanced around. “Your man didn’t send anyone to tail you?”
Claudia jingled her car keys. “Tonight’s girls‘ night.”
Whitney let out a low whistle. “Nice move.”
Claudia dropped Whitney off at the Sawyer Residence.

Despite the constant fights with her dad and that manipulative stepmother, Whitney never moved out because she wanted to make sure her dad did not get completely swindled by that woman and her greedy son.
Besides, she was the only rightful heir. No matter how much they argued, she would always have the upper hand.
Seeing Claudia walk Whitney in, Melanie Sawyer–who had been planning to give her stepdaughter a hard time–quickly changed tactics, pulling back her hot–headed son.
“Whitney, you’re back! We made all your favorite dishes. Come, Ms. Lancaster, stay for dinner too.”
Kevin nodded in agreement. “Yes, Claudia, you and Whitney haven’t seen each other in so long. Stay and catch up.”
He secretly congratulated himself for not forbidding his rebellious daughter from being friends with Claudia. After all, the Sawyer family had just formed a connection with the powerful Romeros. What a stroke of luck!
Unfortunately, his little dream did not last long. Whitney crushed it with a single sentence.
“No thanks. I’m afraid your wife might poison me. We’ll eat out.”
Kevin’s smile froze.
