Still, she didn’t want to miss the drama, so Sterling slipped some cash to the wedding’s camera crew. Instead of filming a highlight reel, they turned it into a full–on live stream.
In the living room, Sterling had the coffee table covered with all of Claudia’s favorite snacks- fruit, yogurt, and grapefruit juice. The wedding was being played live on TV.
He squeezed in beside her on the couch, but after a moment, that wasn’t enough. He pulled her into his arms, taking her away from the dog she’d been petting. Adjusting a little, he finally got comfortable and kept her close.
Claudia curled up against his chest, watching the guests move around on the screen while popping grapes into her mouth. Then, feeling a little bored, she leaned up and kissed him.
Sterling smiled, squeezed her hand, and kissed her back, even deeper this time.
The ceremony hadn’t started yet anyway. There were many better ways to pass the time.
Inside the makeup room, Lydia drove the staff out. She yanked the wine bottle from Jasper’s hand and smashed it against the wall.
“Jasper! Do you even know what day it is?”
It wasn’t even time for the toasts yet, and he was already drunk. What was he trying to prove, acting all miserable and defiant like that?
Jasper looked at her coldly and gave a crooked smile. “You wanted this wedding. I showed up. What else do you want from me?”
Lydia’s temper flared. She wanted to slap him, but she held back. Getting caught would just make her look bad.
“Exactly! You said yes, so at least act like a groom. If you hate it that much, you should’ve had the guts to refuse me earlier.”
Jasper just let out a dry laugh and went searching for more alcohol.
Lydia’s eyes followed him to the door, her expression freezing over.

Then, she said calmly, “Jasper, I could always turn today’s wedding video into your sex tape.”
He froze on the spot.
She gave a mocking smile.
He wanted to play the tragic drunk, but he still couldn’t throw away his pride. That was who he truly was.
“Aren’t you scared people will realize you’re the other one in the video?” he shot back.
Lydia sat down in front of the mirror, completely calm. “I only kept your best parts. And even if they find out, who cares? My leg is ruined, my dreams are gone, and I’ve been to prison. I’ve already hit bottom. Can you say the same?
“If you want to make it through today without a scene, I want a groom who looks happy.”
Jasper stood there for a long moment, then stormed out and slammed the door.
But Lydia knew she’d won.
She stared at her reflection–the flawless makeup, the perfect gown, the man she once dreamed of marrying waiting outside. But she didn’t feel happy. All she could do was force a smile.
“Lydia, you’re still the winner,” she whispered to herself.
Even though Lydia wanted everything to look perfect, she had no real friends or family to back her up, and Jasper clearly wasn’t playing his part. So the whole walking down the aisle tradition was dropped.
She’d worked hard inviting people, but not many showed up.
Fenton Group was going downhill, and neither she nor Jasper had a decent reputation left.
