Sterling let out a cold, silent laugh.

The Lancasters, as always, were fake and full of empty gestures, trying to fix things after it was already too

Sterling twirled a strand of Claudia’s hair between his fingers, smiling lightly. “Since they invited us so sincerely, of course we’ll go.”

“We?” she asked.

“Yeah. I’ll go with you.”

“But doesn’t your family have a gathering tomorrow?”

“No problem. We’ll make the lunch here, then rush back in time for the evening. That way, we won’t miss anyone, and everyone will be satisfied.”

His face, the perfect creation of the maker, carried a sharp, defiant arrogance. Claudia couldn’t sense his distaste at all. Instead, she felt the wild, reckless energy burning off him, like he was eager to show up at the party.

“What? You don’t want me to go?” He rubbed his nose against her cheek, his blue eyes glowing as his thumb brushed across her lips.

Claudia leaned back, dodging his teasing.

“Of course I want you there. Why wouldn’t I?”

In the dark, she lifted her brows with a quiet smile. There was a calmness, even a sly charm, as if her prey was walking right into the trap.

She was never too proud. Having someone powerful to rely on and not using it–that would’ve been plain foolish.

for once.

At nine the next morning, the doorbell rang. Clint stormed into the apartment with a team of people.

The apartment was embarrassingly small.

Once the makeup artists and stylists entered, they had no space for the rows of haute couture gowns and jewelry. They ended up laying everything out in the hallway.

Glittering treasures clashed with the plain, tiny apartment.

Some of the staff were stunned, whispering doubts, when they saw the apartment. They wondered, did Clint bring them to the wrong place?

They grew uneasy.

Clint quickly warned them: “Today, everything revolves around Ms. Lancaster. No staring, no gossiping, no wandering around.”

Whatever they saw inside, they were to keep their mouths shut.

The studio’s lead, Lisa Lovett, raised her hand in a quick “Got it” gesture.

She didn’t need the reminder, really. Lisa had already warned her staff before they came–this client demanded their absolute best.
