pter 72 I’m on His Side
Still, Donovan tried to play the emotional angle. “You’re going way too far. If you keep burning bridges, you’ll regret it when everyone turns against you.
“And that girl you brought–do you truly want to marry her? Have you ever thought if she could accept you like this–cut off from everyone, covered in blood?”
“You don’t need to worry about that.”
Sterling stood, didn’t hesitate, and just walked away, leaving his grandfather staring at his back.
“Of course, I’m on Sterling’s side!”
Sterling had just stepped down the stairs when Claudia’s clear voice rang out.
She sounded so firm and decisive that everyone in the living room turned to look.
Sterling froze for a moment, glancing at the girl on the couch. Her face was glowing as she spoke with certainty.
The twins, Ethan and Emma Romero, who were chatting with Claudia, weren’t ready to back down. “But what if he’s wrong? Wouldn’t you try to stop him?”
Claudia gave them a look like she couldn’t believe they still didn’t get it.
“What does it matter? As long as it’s Sterling, I’m on his side!”
She defended him blindly, no reasoning at all.
The twins stared speechlessly at that kind of lovesick devotion.
It was just like the first time they approached her, acting all sweet and claiming they wanted to be friends. But Claudia had told them she had to check with Sterling first.
They asked why. Did he control who she could be friends with?
Then, she proudly said, “Because I’m his girl.” That left them completely dumbfounded.
“Claudia.”
A deep, magnetic voice called from the stairs.
Sterling leaned lazily on the banister with a smile and held out his hand. “Let’s go.”

Claudia rushed over excitedly. “Finally! What took you so long?”
She was honestly speechless. Even the kids in this family had plenty of tricks up their sleeves.
Sterling glanced at Ethan and Emma, who now looked a little guilty.
They were the children of Quinton’s cousin, Bruno Romero. They were probably sent over because Claudia seemed young and easy to talk to.
The adults might’ve hoped the kids could get info from her, or at least charm her into helping.
Too bad she was like a fortress. Nobody could get through.
Sterling smiled at her playful complaints and ruffled her hair. “Did anyone give you trouble?”
Claudia shook her head.
They might have tried, but it was useless.
He let out a low chuckle. “Alright, let’s go.”
No one here was worth stopping for. Everyone watched in silence as the two of them left.
As they walked out of Romero Manor, Claudia glanced back one last time before getting into the car.
All she could think was how a place so vast and beautiful could be so rotten inside.
In the car, Sterling turned to her. “What were you talking about with them?”
Claudia pulled a serious face. “I was dealing with a spy problem.”
He chuckled. “Didn’t you say you’d always be on my side? Was that just lip service?”
