Irene wouldn’t let the three of them have it easy.
“Haha.” In the middle of the deadlock, Claudia suddenly chuckled lightly.

She twirled a strand of hair in front of her chest and said, “When it comes to relationships, you should believe the people involved instead of listening to rumors.
“My brother’s already made it clear that Jasper and I are just friends, nothing more. He’s telling the truth. Isn’t that right, my dear brother–in–law?”
The first part was directed at Irene. But the last sentence, with its deliberately drawn–out “brother–in–law,” was aimed at the man who had just walked in.
Everyone turned at once.
At the edge of the crowd, Jasper stood pale, staring at the smiling woman as if struck by lightning.
That word–brother–in–law–not only tore at Jasper’s heart, but also those who knew the full story all widened their eyes with an unsettling expression.
Outsiders might not understand, but those who had once witnessed that grand proposal knew better than anyone that they had never been just friends. They had been entangled for over a decade. Their breakup was still fresh, and they had been deeply in love.
Now, it was piercing to hear Claudia addressing Jasper as “brother–in–law“.
They couldn’t even put it into words. All they could think was that Claudia was merciless.
Even Irene was caught off guard by that “brother–in–law.” This woman had switched her attitude far too fast!
Yet she couldn’t help feeling a surge of satisfaction at the sight of Jasper’s ashen face, as though his world had crumbled.
“My bad. Of course, I believe you. Who knows which fools made up those rumors? Not just me, but many people were deceived. You never even dated, and you’re just in–laws. I get it now.”

Tybalt’s eyes burned with fury and warning as he snapped, “Enough! Haven’t you embarrassed yourself enough today?!
“You’re the one who disappeared, cuddling with Lydia in the shadows while we cleaned up your mess. What more trouble do you want to cause?”
Sylvia tried to soothe him. “The engagement has already been announced, and you can’t switch brides twice. You also need to think of our family. And besides, do you think Claudia would believe anything you say now?”
Jasper’s eyes went bloodshot. “Why?”
He looked at his parents. “You both knew who I really wanted to marry.”
He had just settled things with Lydia and rushed back. His heart was pounding with nerves, worried he’d be late for the engagement announcement.
He had assumed his parents would sense the situation and delay things a little.
But along the way, he ran into several acquaintances, each smiling and congratulating him.
Feeling relieved, he’d even smiled brightly, believing everything had gone smoothly, even in his absence.
He thought all that remained was to show his face and apologize to Claudia.
