Now that her circle of close friends had splintered, this was the best outcome the wager could have had.
…
The past few days had been unusually quiet. Even Celine, whenever she was home, made a point of avoiding her. Before, Celine would constantly put on a show of mother-daughter affection with Sommer right in front of her. Now, she was like a mouse, scurrying out of sight.
Sabrina had used part of her funds to buy a house in Port City. It wasn’t much, but it was a place she could finally call her own.
She still wasn’t sure if she’d stay in Port City once her plans for revenge were complete. For now, she just wanted a place to call home on weekends—a little corner of peace, away from the endless drama and mind games.
With some of her remaining money, she registered an investment company, hired a small team, and set out on her own entrepreneurial path.
She gave serious thought to Bryce’s suggestion about those two plots of land. When it came to real estate investment, he was clearly more experienced than she was—and, thanks to information she’d gleaned in her previous life, Sabrina always seemed to have an uncanny sense for finding promising ventures.
Bryce quickly closed the deal and drew up a detailed proposal for the property in the Goldcrest District. The two of them agreed that Bryce would take charge of the development.
But Sabrina knew she needed to build her own business network. Taking down the Harper family wouldn’t be quick or easy. She had no real power or influence just yet, and the Harpers had been a household name for generations. Taking them on was going to require far more than clever tricks.
Having the York family on her side wasn’t enough. She needed to establish her own corporate empire.
Within just a month, her company began to take off. Innovative startups started approaching her first, eager to collaborate. There were, of course, a few jealous rivals who tried to sabotage or swallow up her fledgling company, but every time, they were swiftly dealt with by one formidable person on her team.
That person was Victor Ward—a man with a remarkable business mind.
Sabrina had tracked him down and offered him a seven-figure salary, with no hesitation on his part before he agreed. At the time, Victor had been hitting dead ends everywhere. The project he’d developed couldn’t get any attention from the big firms. He barely had a hundred bucks left in his wallet. If he couldn’t find a company to take on his project soon, he’d be out on the street, penniless.
To make matters worse, he owed over twenty thousand dollars.
