She’s Back, and Hell’s Coming with Her novel Chapter 209

Celine seethed with resentment, her jaw clenched so tight her teeth ached.

She couldn’t stand the way her grandmother treated that little witch.

She dug her fingernails into her palm, but the sting didn’t even register.

Why?

Why had she never been the apple of her grandmother’s eye, no matter how hard she tried?

Yet Sabrina—who had just met their grandmother for the first time—seemed to have wormed her way right into her heart.

A snake in the grass was always a snake in the grass.

Celine was convinced: Sabrina must have pulled some underhanded trick to turn their grandmother’s favor.

Wallace isn’t any better, Sommer muttered, nudging her husband and lowering her voice. Mom’s only just gotten home, and he drags her out again. It’s a miracle nothing happened.

Truthfully, Desmond was just as annoyed with Wallace. If he wanted to take Mom out, he could’ve done it any time. Why tonight of all nights? Couldn’t it have waited until tomorrow? Wallace’s timing was thoughtless; Desmond worried about his mother’s health, too. If anything had happened, how would he ever explain it to his late father?

But, Desmond reminded himself, Wallace was still single. Maybe it was too much to expect him to be so considerate.

As soon as their mother stepped out of the car, Desmond hurried up to greet her.

“Are you alright, Mom? Why didn’t you go to the hospital to get checked out?”

Octavia looked at her children and grandchildren gathered at the door—so late, all waiting for their aging matriarch. Guilt flickered across her face.

“I’m fine, I’m fine. Why aren’t you getting some rest? You have work tomorrow. Go on, everyone—don’t fuss over me.”

Sommer rushed over, pulling Celine along in her wake.

“Oh Mom, we’re just worried about you. How could we sleep, not knowing you were okay? As long as you’re safe, nothing else matters,” she said, casting a meaningful glance at her daughter.

Celine caught her mother’s cue and immediately stepped forward, putting on her sweetest voice: “Grandma, you’ve had a long day. Thank you for everything.”
