Sabrina gripped Hester’s outstretched hand with one hand.
With a sharp tug and a sudden twist, pain shot through Hester’s wrist, making her yelp in surprise and instinctively let go.
“Hester, if you keep acting out like this, I swear I’ll cut that hand off and feed it to the dogs.” Sabrina’s voice was calm, but the words were ice-cold and merciless.
Her gaze was dark and fathomless, as if it could swallow Hester whole.
Hester, still reeling from the pain, didn’t notice Sabrina’s expression. All she could think about was how much this wretched woman had just hurt her. She couldn’t let it go and started venting her frustration all over again.
“Why can’t I speak up? Am I wrong? I haven’t been back with the Sutton family long, but I can see exactly what’s going on.”
Sabrina took a deliberate step closer, reaching out her hand.
Thinking Sabrina meant to strike her, Hester stumbled back several steps, her mouth snapping shut. She might be a fool, but even she knew when to cut her losses.
Sabrina shot her a sidelong glance before striding away.
Why? Sabrina wondered. There was no bad blood between her and Hester, so why did Hester keep making trouble for her? Was it really just because of their grandmother’s favoritism? Maybe. Jealousy could twist people into something unrecognizable.
That afternoon, news finally came from Marshall’s side.
Ever since he’d seen the video, he hadn’t believed it right away. To be certain, he’d sent people to investigate, tracing every detail from morning until late afternoon.
The results were in. The video was real.
After Hester had left the seafood restaurant last night, she really had gone to a bar to meet Hector.
Finding out about Hector was easy enough. Even though his family and the Suttons had butted heads over the Goldcrest District property recently, they still kept up appearances in public.
It didn’t take long to confirm: Hector had indeed spent the night with a woman named Hester.
Later, Hester was taken to a hotel by a group of local thugs. The hotel belonged to the Harper Group, so getting access to the security footage from last night was no trouble at all.
