Desmond’s face was tight with worry as he watched Octavia struggle in pain.
“Mom, you’ve been through so much already. You just woke up; you shouldn’t try to talk. Please, just rest,” he pleaded.
Octavia’s eyes went wide with urgency. She wanted so desperately to warn them—Hester was a monster, and she would destroy every last member of the Sutton family. Octavia longed for everyone to know what Hester had done. She needed the police to come and take Hester away. She didn’t want her family to get hurt.
But not a single word would come out.
Meanwhile, Hester hovered beside the bed, nerves jangling. Terrified that Octavia would expose her, she lingered close, watching for any sign of betrayal.
Only Sabrina seemed to notice the change in Octavia’s mood.
“Grandma, just try to rest, okay? I’ll stay here with you. You’re not alone,” Sabrina murmured, squeezing Octavia’s hand in comfort.
Hester quickly chimed in, her voice syrupy sweet. “Grandma, please don’t worry. You took a nasty fall and hit your head—of course you can’t speak yet. The doctors said there’s some bleeding in your brain, so it’s normal you can’t talk. You need to focus on getting better, otherwise we’ll all be worried sick.”
Only Octavia could hear the venom behind Hester’s gentle words—the soft tone was just a mask for the knife she twisted, slicing into Octavia’s heart, bit by bit.
Desmond let out a heavy sigh. “Mom, please, don’t think about anything right now. Don’t try to say anything. Just focus on recovering.”
Sabrina understood: Grandma wanted to say something, her eyes wild with a mix of fear and hope. But right now, she was trapped in silence—and getting too agitated could only make her condition worse.
Sabrina squeezed her hand tighter, then leaned in close and whispered so only they could hear, “Grandma, are you trying to tell me someone wants to hurt you? If you are, blink your eyes.”
Octavia blinked rapidly, relief flooding her features.
Now Sabrina was certain—her suspicions were right.
Hester caught a glimpse of their exchange: Sabrina whispering to Octavia, Octavia suddenly blinking hard. Panic flickered across Hester’s face. What if Sabrina knew something?
