Celine’s eyes shimmered, tears glistening in the corners. She clutched her friends’ hands, her voice choked and barely above a whisper.

“I don’t want the steak anymore…”

Just then, a smiling waiter approached their table. “Can I get you ladies anything? We have private rooms upstairs if you’d like something more secluded—where would you be most comfortable?”

Uliana waved him off. “We’re fine, thank you. We’ll just sit here.”

After sending the waiter away, the three of them settled into seats at a nearby table.

“So, who is she?”

“You seem really scared of her.”

“Celine, are we still your friends or not?”

“Whoever she is, you’ve got us on your side.”

Faced with her friends’ gentle concern, Celine only shook her head, staring down at her lap, nervously biting her lower lip.

“Please, just stop asking. If she finds out I’m here, I—I…”

She stammered, unable to get the words out. Her friends had to fill in the blanks themselves.

A spark lit in Uliana’s eyes as she pieced it together. “Wait—she’s not that adopted girl who just came back, is she?”

“Oh, come on, Celine, you’re too kind. How dare an adopted girl push you around?”

Elena shot a glare at the distant figure, bristling with indignation on her friend’s behalf. “No wonder your mood just tanked. You’ve lost weight lately—I thought you were on some new diet, but it’s her, isn’t it?”

“Celine, you’re way too gentle. That’s your house, your parents—why are you afraid of her? Does she always bully you at home?”

“Don’t worry, if she’s giving you trouble, we’ve got your back. Seriously, this is outrageous. Some girl from nowhere thinks she can walk all over our proper princess? Not a chance.”

Uliana slammed her palm on the table, eyes blazing as she glared daggers at Sabrina.

“There’s three of us—what, are we supposed to be scared of her? Don’t worry, if it comes to it, we’ll yank her hair out. She needs to learn Celine isn’t someone to mess with.”
