Side Chick Era Over (Sharon and Carter) novel Chapter 469

Chapter 469

Sharon glanced at the pianist, whose eyes were red and brimming with tears. She then shifted her gaze to the direction Carter had left. A cold, mocking smile tugged at her lips.

All it took was one baseless accusation, and just like that, the pianist was out, her hard work dismissed like it meant nothing.

Such a precise move. Classic fearmongering. Ruthless and effective.

If that pianist was the chicken in this “warn-the-monkey” act, then she… She was the monkey.

Not long after, Sharon received a call from Nate. He asked her to come by and go over performance details.

The venue had been rented at great expense by Carter for Kelly.

Every inch of it whispered extravagance, needing no embellishment. Even the surrounding landscape was picturesque-a natural lake stretched out in the rear garden, its waters still and clear, while floral scents drifted lightly through the breeze.

Sharon arrived in the garden and spotted Kelly standing on a small bridge with Carter. The two of them were quietly admiring the view. Kelly pointed at something in the distance, speaking now and then.

Nate was the first to notice Sharon. He sneered, “Well, well. Sharon finally decided to grace us with her presence. Bold enough to beg for a chance to perform, yet can’t even be bothered to show initiative. What now? Waiting for someone to roll out a red carpet for you?”

Sharon glanced at him, calm as ever. “I saw Kelly got hurt earlier. I figured the rehearsal might be off.”

Kelly turned around, smiling softly. “It’s just a little scrape on my knee, nothing serious. I can still rehearse. Carter’s just overreacting.”

Sharon understood perfectly what was hidden in those sweet, gentle words.

The message was clear: Carter cared about her.

Sharon’s gaze swept across Kelly’s leg. There was a faint bruise, but no blood. For a performer, minor injuries like that were par for the course.

And yet, Carter had dismissed a carefully chosen pianist over it. That level of indulgence was rare and unmistakable.

Still, Sharon wasn’t interested in other people’s dramas. She turned to Kelly.

“So, will I be playing a solo or a duet?”

Kelly casually tossed out a few highly technical questions, clearly hoping to trip Sharon up. But Sharon answered them all with ease.

Then she countered with a few sharp questions of her own, leaving Kelly momentarily speechless.

The challenge in Kelly’s eyes quietly faded. She gave up the idea of testing Sharon further.

Meanwhile, Carter’s gaze hadn’t left Sharon once.

He had never seen her like this before, completely immersed in her work. It was a different kind of focus than the light she gave off on stage.

He had always known Sharon was beautiful. But maybe he’d looked at her for too long, because for a while, that beauty had stopped surprising him. He’d hardly admired it anymore.

To him, appearance meant little; talent was what truly captivated him.

And in this moment, she looked… more pleasing to the eye than ever. Maybe even more beautiful than he remembered.
