Side Chick Era Over (Sharon and Carter) novel Chapter 477

Chapter 477

After all, if Carter ever saw this side of Kelly, every last shimmer of her halo would shatter.

As for Nate… he was utterly useless. Kelly was lucky if he didn’t sabotage her outright.

Sharon had no real concern about Nate’s schemes. Besides, Julliard was keeping an eye on his every move.

Aside from Carter and Nate, Sharon couldn’t think of anyone else who’d bother to help Kelly.

And on her side, she had Xavier, John, and Ginny. With friends like these, she had no reason to fear Kelly’s little tricks.

Still, she couldn’t shake the feeling-like a thin layer of fog had settled across her heart. Something didn’t feel right, though she couldn’t quite put her finger on it.

A gust of wind swept past. Sharon sneezed.

The night air had grown cold.

She needed to get home, shower, and change. The last thing she could afford right now was to get sick.

Just as she reached the gate and was about to call a car, a black luxury sedan rolled to a stop in front of her.

The license plate was unmistakable. The door opened, and a tall, sharp-featured man stepped out.

“Sharon, what happened to you?” Xavier strode toward her, taking in her drenched clothes with a frown.

Surprised, Sharon blinked. “Xavier? What are you doing here?”

He noticed how pale her face looked. Without a word, he took off his coat and draped it around her shoulders.

“Matty said you had a rehearsal tonight. I happened to be nearby, so I thought I’d stop by.”

She had rehearsal this evening and was planning to send Matty back to the Cooper residence. But Matty had refused to leave, so she asked Wendy to stay with Matty at home instead.

Matty had asked where the rehearsal would be. He said he wanted to watch Sharon perform on the day of the concert.

Sharon hadn’t thought much of it and gave her the address.

Just as she was about to say more, another figure approached from the shadows.

“Sharon.”

It was Simon, Carter’s assistant.

Smiling politely, he said, “Mr. Biggs said you accidentally fell into the lake. He was worried you wouldn’t be able to get a car and might catch a cold, so he asked me to drive you home.”

His car had been idling nearby after dropping Carter off. A short while ago, Carter had called to ask him to give her a ride.

Sharon had never liked people from Carter’s side, but Simon was an exception. When she couldn’t reach Carter, Simon had always tried to help however he could.

He was one of the few who’d ever treated her with genuine respect.

“Thank you, Simon,” she said. “But that won’t be necessary. A friend of mine’s already here.”

Simon glanced at Xavier and, understanding instantly, didn’t press the matter.

“All right. If you need anything, Sharon, you can always call me.”

She nodded, then climbed into Xavier’s car.

Once inside, Xavier asked, “Sharon, what exactly happened? Why do you look like you just escaped a shipwreck?”

She gave a brief account of what had just happened.

Then, as if remembering something, she asked, “Do you happen to know anyone who can fix a water-damaged phone?”

Xavier chuckled. “It’s just water damage. Nothing too serious. Don’t worry, I’ll have someone fix it for you tomorrow.”

That night, Kelly had just finished her shower when her phone, sitting on the table, suddenly lit up and rang

Her eyes landed on the familiar number flashing on the screen.

And a flicker of fear passed through her gaze.

It was that person again.

The one who had falsified her medical records so thoroughly that even Carter hadn’t been able to detect it. That alone showed how powerful he really was.

He had taken care of things for her-things she could never go to Carter for help.

But unlike with Nate, she didn’t dare use him.

After taking a few deep breaths, she reached for the phone with trembling hands and tapped “Answer.”
