Side Chick Era Over (Sharon and Carter) novel Chapter 580

Chapter 580

Carter asked, “Car trouble?” 1

Sharon replied distractedly, still bent over the engine, “Yeah, something’s wrong.”

Wind and rain lashed around them, and she was soaked through. She looked utterly disheveled.

“I’ll drive you back,” Carter offered.

She shook her head without looking up. “No need. I’ll have a friend come pick me up.”

Carter glanced at the stormy sky. “It’s more than an hour’s drive to the city from here. With this downpour, it might take close to two. And it’s getting dark early today. This area’s remote. It’s not safe for a woman to wait out here alone.”

Sharon didn’t want any unnecessary entanglement with him. Her tone was polite but distant. “I’ll be careful.”

Seeing her unwilling to get in the car, Carter suddenly pushed open his door and stepped out into the rain, holding a large black umbrella.

Startled, Sharon eyed him warily.

But Carter didn’t approach her. Instead, he walked to the front of her car and began checking the engine.

The umbrella barely shielded their upper bodies. Holding the umbrella with one hand while inspecting the engine with the other was clearly awkward for him.

Sharon wanted to refuse his help, but since he had already stepped out into the rain and was now nearly as soaked as she was, turning him away felt unnecessarily cold.

She reached for the umbrella. “Let me hold it.”

“Thanks,” Carter said, passing it to her.

Raindrops tapped steadily against the umbrella’s surface. Water trickled down his sharply defined features, dripping from his

chin.

After inspecting the engine, he straightened up and pointed at the components. “There’s a fault in the engine. It won’t start. You’ll need to have it towed for repairs.”

Sharon’s brows knitted slightly.

Carter added, “Let me drive you back. It’s cold, and staying in a stalled car like this, alone, you’ll likely catch a chill.”

He paused awhile, then said, “You’ve got competitions and a concert coming up. You really shouldn’t risk getting sick.”

Sharon thought for a moment. He had a point. Her schedule was already packed; falling ill now would throw everything into

chaos.

She gave a small nod. “Then I’ll trouble you to take me to the city. I’ll have my friend pick me up there.”

Carter looked at her, then said, “Sharon, we still have Theo. It’s impossible for us to cut ties completely and pretend we’re strangers. You’ve always felt I wronged you. So, why not see this as my way of making it up to you?”

Sharon replied with no hint of emotion, “You’re a businessman, Carter. Everything you give comes with a price tag.”

His expression darkened.

Sharon handed the umbrella back to him and walked toward his car.

But when she opened the back door, she was surprised to see others inside-not just one, but two people.

Maestro Warner sat in the backseat. Kelly was in the front passenger seat.

“Sharon, it’s pouring outside. Hurry and get in,” Kelly said with a soft smile.

Neither of them looked surprised to see her. Clearly, this had been arranged in advance.

Maestro Warner gave her a slight nod in greeting.

Sharon took a seat in the back. The space was spacious enough for two without feeling cramped.

Moments later, Carter got in as well. In just those few minutes outside, he’d become thoroughly drenched.

As he climbed in, Kelly immediately handed him a clean towel.
