Stand Me Up? I'll Marry His Billionaire Uncle novel Chapter 207

Some in the group had already guessed Wyatt’s real motive for tonight’s gathering: introducing his protégé. No one said anything, but everyone understood. Their glances toward Sunny turned a little more curious, a little more knowing. A prosecutor and a defense attorney—now that was quite the pair, and, truth be told, they looked good together.

The conversation was in full swing when the door to their private room swung open, and a refined-looking man stepped inside.

He wore silver-rimmed glasses perched on a straight nose, a crisp white shirt tucked neatly into tailored slacks. He was on the lean side, but there was a certain clean-cut charm about him.

Austin offered an apologetic smile. “Sorry for running late, everyone.”

“Hope I didn’t keep you waiting too long?”

His warm gaze swept across the table before pausing, just briefly, in surprise when it landed on Sunny. Clearly, he hadn’t expected a new face tonight.

“Ah, Prosecutor Sheffield, you made it at last!” Mr. Davis called out, grinning as he pulled out the empty chair right next to Sunny. “Come on, this seat’s yours!”

Sunny felt her cheeks flush. She was really starting to think she’d made a mistake coming to this dinner.

Austin sat down with practiced ease, flashing a friendly smile. “Attorney Glenn, is this the outstanding Attorney Carrington you mentioned before?”

Sunny hadn’t expected him to recognize her. She stood and nodded politely. “Hello, Prosecutor Sheffield. I’m Sunny—just call me Sunny.”

Wyatt’s grin stretched even wider. “That’s right. Prosecutor Sheffield’s got a sharp memory—I only mentioned her once!”

He’d known it—Austin would never be able to resist the charm of his protégé. The real question was whether Sunny would be interested in him.

Someone teased, “Hey, Prosecutor Sheffield, do you always have such a good memory when there’s a pretty woman at the table?”

Austin laughed. “You’re giving me too much credit, Mr. Cooper. I remember last time your daughter insisted you buy her a rubber duck at dinner. As it happens, I picked one up for her today.”

Mr. Cooper threw up his hands. “Now you’re just spoiling us! I guess I can’t tease Prosecutor Sheffield anymore tonight.”

Sunny arched an eyebrow, impressed. The young prosecutor clearly knew how to handle himself—deflecting the joke and saving her from embarrassment all in one go.

Austin seemed genuinely taken with Sunny—she was, after all, quite beautiful. Who could blame him for being drawn to something so lovely?

He leaned over and said quietly, so only she could hear, “Don’t mind them. They just like to joke around.”

Sunny shook her head with a small smile. “I know. It’s fine.”
