“No, it’s not like that…”
Camila Davis shook her head instinctively, cheeks burning. “He’s not… We’re not like that at all…”
Her ears were warm, and she could feel her face heating up. How did Mia even come up with that idea? How could she and Mr. Williams be a couple? That was just ridiculous.
Camila could almost feel her face turning crimson.
Mia raised her eyebrows in surprise, a playful smile tugging at her lips. “Oh, really? Well, I just thought so because you light up in a special way when you talk about him.”
She laughed softly. “Your eyes get all gentle, you know? Made me wonder.”
Camila’s mind raced—do I really? I hadn’t even noticed.
But this was not a topic she wanted to linger on. Trying to keep her voice steady, she replied, “No, honestly! We’re just friends, I swear. Please don’t get the wrong idea.”
Mia gave her a knowing smile, her voice full of warmth. “That’s alright. Maybe not now, but who knows what the future holds, right? Anyway, I’ll let you get back to the rest of the gallery. It was lovely meeting you.”
Camila finally felt herself relax a little. She smiled back, relieved, “It was lovely meeting you too. An absolute honor.”
They shook hands, and Mia walked away, leaving Camila with a sense of escape.
A staff member waved her over to finalize the paperwork. “Just need your signature here, Ms. Davis. We’ll get your painting all packed up and delivered to your address.”
Camila had barely finished signing when a familiar little voice chirped from behind her.
