Chapter 8
“That’s a bit dramatic, Sebastiana,” my mother says patiently. “And this is exactly why we didn’t tell you.”
“I think this is one of those things that you need to redefine, Sebi,” Christian.
“How? How do I redefine that two of my instructors are family members who know me well enough that they could probably break me down on day one?” I ask him.
“Because those same family members also know how to build you back up again, Sebastiana,” my father says calmly. “Dane and Ryan aren’t there to make you fail. Will they push you hard? Yes, they will. But they’ll do it because they know your limitations, they know how far they can push you. As strong as you are, my daughter, they will make you stronger. And I guarantee you; they will make sure you succeed.”
I feel the tears burning my eyes again. I look at Enya who smiles at me.
“Do you know what I think we need?”
“I already had a whiskey talk with Christian,” I say.
She smiles, looking up at Christian behind me before looking back at me. “I think we need a family hug,” she says.
She stands, pulling me to my feet and wraps her arms around me. I feel my mother join the hug first, then my father, Christian, and Raif.
I stand there, in the middle of my family, letting their love and support surround me.
“Do
you know what we need now?” my mother asks.
“What?” I murmur.
“A movie night with popcorn in our pajamas.”
It’s my comfort. Whenever I was sick as a child, my parents would sit with me, and we’d watch movies and make popcorn. I didn’t always feel up to eating the popcorn, but the smell of it and
curling up on the couch with my parents always comforts me.
“Yeah, that sounds good,” I say.

Chapter 8
“How about you. Raif? Are you able to join us?” my father asks.
“I can’t but ask Selena. The kids are in bed, so she should be able to join you,” he says, referencing his mate.

Movie night helped, but I still couldn’t sleep and come morning, I felt my anxiety beginning to climb again.
I picked at breakfast while I finished packing. Then I said goodbye to Raif, Selena, and their kids and we were on our way to the train station.
I stared out the window as we drove, not really listening to the conversation around me. When we arrive, Dad and Christian grab my bags. I see several other Alphas waiting for the train, all standing with their families. I nod at them, but I don’t engage like I thought I would. I’m too nervous about what to expect.
