Chapter 12

“She’s better than pretty good,” Shane says. “When I met her a year and a half ago, she could kick my ass.”

“And now?” Cole asks him.

I grin at Shane. “Now we’re evenly matched.”

“And you’ve never been to the Academy?” Cassandra asks.

“Not since I was a baby, and I don’t remember that, of course.”

“My father said it’s a lot larger than it used to be.” Damon, one of the new people says.

“Yes. Back when my parents were instructors, the Academy only ran for three months and only for Alpha heirs. My mother was an assistant but my father encouraged her to take the classes. That’s how she became the first female on the leaderboard. And after that, she petitioned the Council to allow female Alphas to attend the Academy and it grew from there to allow all Alphas to attend,” I say.

“Wow. Remind me to send a thank you note for your mother when we leave,” Cassandra says.

After dinner, the group sat around talking and laughing, getting to know each other. When we went to bed, I followed Shane to his room. Ryan was in the hall and saw me. He didn’t say anything, but he raised an eyebrow at me going into Shane’s room late at night. I stuck my tongue out at him and followed Shane inside.

The next day, we arrived at the Academy mid–afternoon. It felt more intimidating that I’d expected. What used to be a small campus with one building that included the kitchen and dorms, is now a much larger campus that has multiple buildings. One entire building is dormitories. The kitchen and dining hall are now their own building, and there’s a building for classrooms. In addition, there’s a workout building and in that building they have the auditorium for the sex class. The idea was to utilize the showers for both the sex class and the workout space.

After getting settled into our rooms, Dane and the other instructors showed us around. Half of the group is Alpha heirs, so Shane will have classes with six other Alphas. There are only three of us in Pack Management, but since some of the classes are the same as the ones that the Alpha heirs take, I’ll have some classes with Shane.

There are two people taking finance classes and they will also have classes with the Alpha heirs.

Then there’s the warrior class. The heirs will be taking the warrior classes, the two of us who are taking the warrior track will take those classes. Also, anyone who chose warrior classes as an elective will be in those classes.
