Chapter 13.

Rex pov

Right after the call with Kai and his team, we got our ass moving. We decided that myself, dad and Leo would be going to California while Luca was gonna hold down the fort at home.

Luca was not happy about that but knew better then disobey my orders. Dad quickly called our pilot to get our plane ready for takeoff as soon as possible. Leo had also sent a message to the head doctor of the California branch to also take a dna test of this girl Betty.

Luca was told not to give any information to anyone not even mom until we were sure! We have had so many fake leads that we all had given up hope, everyone except Daniel he couldn’t give up on his hope.

Now we are up in the air and its still around three hours left till we land. “Dad if it is her or not we have to find a way to safely get her away from that situation.” Leo said in a serious tone.

“I know son” dad said while looking out the window. “Even if it’s her or not I will not let an opportunity to teach them right from wrong, I will not kill them easily” I said.

“I know.. so we will have to get a hold of two bodies we can put in that house before we burn it to the ground” Dad said.

“I will get in contact with the head of the fire investigation team so they will rule this as an accidental fire! And I will also get in contact with the captain of the police force so he keep this Betty away from being dragged into it.” Leo said before taking a sip of his whiskey.

“Dad how will we go about this if it turns out to be her?” I asked looking at my dad with a serious expression on my face. Dad looked back at me, and I could see how he was both filled with hope and

concern.

Hope that it would be her, concern for it to be false hope. He was thinking for a moment while taking a few sips of his whiskey.

“Well if it is her, we can’t just drop the bomb on her like that, so I think the best thing would be that some of the police officers we have in california will take her in to the station. Take a dna test of her there so it would look like we don’t have a finger in this. And I think the news will be better taken coming from Derick. And we will have to force ourselves to wait a few hours before we can pick her up and take her home.” dad voiced out while he is still thinking.

I took the words dad said and thought them over for a bit. “I agree, we will go and check in with Kai and his team, see if Phil have gotten a result of the dna test and then head to the wearhouse where those

fuckers are at. Leo when you talk to Derick and Blake have them meet us at the warehouse.” I said in a

serious tone looking at Leo. He nodded his head and said “yes of course!”

For the reminder of the time till we landed we were all just sitting there in our own thoughts, no one said. a words. We are all filled with both hope and worry. We needed this to be the lead we have been looking

for.

But we are also so worried it’s not and can’t let our hearts be filled with hope just in case it isn’t. Our pilot gave the notice that we are about to descend so we needed to fasten the seatbelts.

The plane landed and we all got out. There were three suv’s waiting for us. I got in one suv with dad, Leo and Jack one of Kai’s guards. The other two suv’s got filled with our men and guards and we were on our way to the California branch home of operation where Betty was being treated.

And during our drive there Leo got on the phone with both Derick and Blake to meet us at the warehouse.

Kai’s pov

I have been pacing the hallway outside of the room where Betty is being treated. It have been a few hours now and every second feels like an eternity. The Don and the leader have send a message that they have landed and is on their way here.

I will say I’m actually shocked that they wanted to come in person to help us with this. I was expecting that they would just advice us in best way to handle this by ourselves but I won’t say no when it comes to any help we can get to keep Betty safe!

I still can’t believe we have not notice before how badly she was living. She always seem so cheerful and full of positive vibes that I always felt bad for getting involved with her in the first place.

After she saved me and Sebastian from bleeding out we all have been drawn to her like crazy. Now that I think about it, how in the world did a thirteen year old girl know how to treat gunshot wounds.

We all tried to see her every day, as long as we did not have some business to take care of with the mafia

we would all hang out, either it was at her job because she had to work or it was after school and we brought her here with us.

Everyone here at this branch house love Betty. All the guards, our tech guys, nurses, doctors, myself and

my team.

I have been honest with Betty from the start. I have told her about our job and what we do! I have told her that I have killed people but only people that deserve it.

But she didn’t get scared, in fact she thanked me for trusting me with that. And she told me that she will keep our secrets safe and take them with her to her grave.

That day I told her all that I was so nervous because I was so afraid that she would hate us. But the smile on her face when she understood that I trusted her with something that could be used against me in more ways than one I saw a look of belonging in her eyes.

I heard someone clear their throat behind me, and that brought me out of my little memory lane. I turned around and I was honestly so shocked that I accidently dropped my coffee cup on the floor and it shattered, splashing all its content all over the place.
