Emily stepped into the tall glass building of Rowland Corporation, her mind fully focused on the big presentation ahead. She clutched her file tightly and took a deep breath. I can’t mess this up.
She walked straight to the elevator, her heels clicking softly on the floor. When the doors slid open, she stopped in her tracks.
Denovon.
He stood there alone, looking sharp in a tailored black suit, one hand in his pocket. His expression was unreadable, but calm—like always. He glanced up and saw her frozen at the door.
“You coming in?” he asked in that cool voice.
Emily snapped out of it, embarrassed. “Oh, uh… yes.” She quickly stepped inside, standing beside him but not too close.
“Good morning,” she said politely, voice low.
“Morning,” he replied, without looking at her.
Silence filled the elevator, heavy but not uncomfortable.
Emily tried to act normal, but inside, she was wondering a million things. What is he doing here? Is he just visiting? A meeting maybe? No… why would he be here this early?
She glanced at him from the corner of her eye. He looked completely calm—like this was exactly where he was supposed to be.
But Denovon didn’t say another word. He didn’t offer an explanation, and Emily didn’t ask.
When the elevator stopped, he stepped out first, his steps steady and firm.
Emily followed slowly, still confused but keeping it all to herself.
What is going on
Emily followed Denovon out of the elevator, still confused but trying to push it aside. The boardroom was already buzzing—senior staff were seated, middle managers were entering, and everyone was talking in low tones about the new chairman arriving that morning.
She went to her seat with her documents, forcing herself to focus. This is not the time to be distracted.
The HR team had their section, and since she was the department manager, she sat in the front row. The large screen behind the head seat read:
WELCOME CHAIRMAN ROWLAND
The door opened.
Silence fell.
Everyone stood up.
Emily stood too, politely. But when she turned to see who walked in…
Her heart stopped.
It was Denovon.
In the same suit. Calm face. Cold, powerful presence.
He walked straight to the front, slow and confident. As if he owned the place.
Because he did.
He was the new chairman.
Her mouth slightly parted. Her eyes wide.
No… No way.
He didn’t look at her once. Not a glance. Not a smile. He sat down like a king claiming his throne.
