Teague could barely contain his grin. "Mr. Frank was just saying he wants to take you out to pick a gemstone necklace. He said you've been working so hard on the project, and he wants to reward you."
To them, their daughter was the epitome of excellence—capable, steady, and brilliant in every way. Otherwise, Frank wouldn't be so fond of Felicity, treating her almost like his own.
With Frank as an honorary family member, and Julian as their son-in-law, the Shepherd family was thriving. It wouldn't be long before they broke into the elite circles of Greenwood City's old-money families.
"Mr. Frank, you really don't have to go to all this trouble," Felicity replied graciously. "I'm just an engineer. There's no need for me to wear something so extravagant."
But Frank shook his head, his tone earnest. "Now, listen to your uncle! You can't pour all your energy into work. You should let yourself shine. I know you love Julian, so you must always show him your most beautiful, most elegant side. That's how you keep a man's heart, do you understand?"
Felicity blushed, smiling sweetly. "I understand, Mr. Frank."
"Uncle hopes you'll have lots of children. That'll keep your marriage strong."
She giggled, suddenly shy as a schoolgirl. "Mr. Frank, Julian and I are doing great."
He gave her a knowing look. "I know you have your own charm and your relationship is solid. But I can also see that woman—Winona, isn't it? She's got her eyes on your husband. You need to watch out for her! She's sneaky, trashy, and absolutely shameless."
Felicity blinked, a little amused. "Oh, you noticed too?"
Frank ruffled her hair affectionately. "How could I not notice? I'm not blind, you know."
"Do you really think she could ever be a threat to me?" Felicity's confidence was unshakeable.
Winona was no match for her. Not even close.
