The Billionaire Ex-Wife and the Beggar He Became novel Chapter 15

Winona didn't bother with any greeting. She said flatly, "Mr. Nicholson, come out. We need to talk."

She'd had enough of the Nicholsons' incessant calls. Her schedule was jam-packed already—she had to finish her latest design project and juggle site visits, barely finding time to grab a bite to eat.

And yet, the Nicholson family's house staff insisted on pestering her with phone calls.

None of them ever acknowledged her as Mrs. Nicholson. To them, she was simply invisible.

But why, after she'd already moved out, did they keep calling her three or four times a day?

To reminisce about old times?

Winona had no patience for it, and she wasn't interested. She needed to make things clear to Julian, face to face: from now on, whatever happened in the Nicholson family, she wanted nothing to do with it. No more calls. Not even from the staff.

And while she was at it, she needed to ask him when they were finally getting the divorce papers signed.

She was waiting to leave the country for a senior living facility conference; she didn't have time to play these games.

Winona was well aware that Julian, in his typical aloof manner, would probably refuse to meet with her. It was just as well. If he didn't come out, she'd just wait for him at the gates of the estate.

From the other end of the line, a woman's voice floated over—clear, not too near, not too far. "Julian, who is it?"

Even through the phone, Winona recognized Felicity's voice. Winona almost laughed. She'd only been gone a week, and Felicity was already moving in?

If he's so eager, why doesn't he just sign the divorce papers?

As Winona mulled this over, Julian spoke. "Meet me tomorrow at noon. Downstairs at my office. The café."

"Fine," Winona said, ending the call without hesitation.

The line went dead in his ear. "She actually hung up? Just like that?" The decisiveness of it sent an unexpected pang through him.

"What's wrong, Julian?" Felicity had picked up on the fact it was Winona.

Could it be that Winona wanted to come back?

She'd been away for a week; now that Julian was ignoring her and Victor no longer needed her, she had the nerve to try to return? What gave her the right to be so confident, so self-assured?
