"Yes!"
Winona gritted her teeth, her voice shaking with anger. "I never did anything to you! I never got in your way! Not once, not ever! I know you love Felicity—I stepped aside for you two, didn't I? I put the divorce papers right in your hands, Julian. In your hands!"
"But you dragged things out for so long, and somehow, you think I'm the problem? That I'm the one clinging to you? That I'm standing in Felicity's way? You and your friends, her friends, all ganging up just to destroy me!"
"Don't you people worry about karma even a little?"
"You're all garbage!"
Just thinking about it made Winona's blood boil.
If Yves Prescott hadn't shown up in time that day, she would have been left at the mercy of a gang of vagrants.
"That's why, Winona," Julian said, his tone patient, "I know you're on the edge. I knew you could never go through with giving Victor another transfusion, so I didn't call you. I didn't. You need to calm down and just tell me—who called you?"
Suddenly, Winona realized—Shera was the one who'd called Felicity.
Maybe Felicity hadn't acted on Julian's orders after all.
"Shera called your girlfriend. Oh, and by the way, her phone? I smashed it. Please let her know that if she ever calls me a homewrecker in public again, I'll go on every TV station and every social media site and announce to the whole world that she's the other woman. And that's just the truth!"
Julian was silent.
"Tell Shera to stop harassing my family, too."
With that, Winona ended the call.
On the other end, Julian stood there, stunned, the phone still pressed to his ear.
He wanted to ask Shera if she'd really been bothering Winona's godmother, Mia, but with Victor in surgery and his oldest sister sobbing in the hallway outside, he just couldn't.
