"I see," Winona replied curtly.

Gideon hadn't lied to her.

After ending the call, Winona remained seated in her office.

She'd considered introducing herself as Mrs. Nicholson, but the staff had never accepted her as such. For a moment, she thought of saying she was Tiana's mother, but Tiana never acknowledged her either. In the end, she simply gave her name.

"Are you Mrs. Nicholson?" the housekeeper asked respectfully.

Winona hesitated, silent.

"Madam, are you…the little princess's mom?" The woman's voice sounded unexpectedly delighted, despite Winona's silence.

Winona's reply was hoarse, choked with emotion. "I'm not…her mother anymore."
