Who would believe she isn't the little princess's real mother? Who would believe she doesn't love her? No one.
But the truth is, the little princess has wounded her mother's heart—so deeply, so thoroughly—that any warmth left must have died long ago.
That's the only reason she could say something so cool and indifferent.
"Tiana," Karla ventured, glancing around to make sure the coast was clear, "tell me honestly: in your heart, do you love your mom more, or Miss Felly?"
"Of course I love Miss Felly more," Tiana replied without hesitation.
Karla was momentarily speechless.
Just the mention of Miss Felly lit up Tiana's whole face.
"Miss Felly is beautiful, stylish, and always so graceful. She's got tons of friends who all adore her. She rides horses, swims like a pro, and even goes rock climbing! She's so proud and confident. Dad always tells me I should grow up to be just like Miss Felly—strong, independent, and full of sunshine."
"But your mom loves you so much," Karla couldn't help defending Winona.
"Isn't she supposed to? She gave birth to me, so of course she should love me. But she's always trying to take Miss Felly's things, and she even calls Miss Felly a witch! Miss Felly never calls her names. Dad and Miss Felly both can't stand Mom, and honestly, I can't either."
Karla fell silent, unsure what to say.
Just talking about her mother filled Tiana with resentment and grievance.
"How can my mom be so selfish? She knows Dad and I love her cooking. I even told her she could come back as our housekeeper—Dad would pay her, and Miss Felly was nice enough to agree, too! And she still refused!
And at my birthday party, she kept hugging and kissing some random little girl. That girl wasn't even me! I'm way cuter than her! And that girl isn't even her real daughter! Why would my mom hold on to her like that?
I hate it! I hate her!
